FANTASTIC FOUR MOVIE UPDATE

The Continuum continues its coverage of the Fantastic Four movie with a press conference in New York City with director Tim Story and producer Avi Arad of Marvel Studios.

The pair talk about potential sequels, casting choices and the fan base.

CHASSIS: THE MOVIE

Hurricane Entertainment had announce four-time Academy Award winner Ben Burtt has been attached to direct the live-action feature film adaptation of their flagship comic book property Chassis.

Working alongside George Lucas since 1975, Burtt has won four Academy Awards and has been nominated 10 times for his sound design work and sound editing on Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET and Indiana Jones and the last Crusade. He directed the Young Indiana Jones movie, Attack of the Hawkman and the IMAX films Blue Planet and Special effects. His recent work includes editing the Star Wars prequels as well as creating a new sound division for Pixar Animation.

When asked what attracted him to Chassis, Burtt said "Well, I love fantasy and adventure. The setting for Chassis provides a wonderful escapism. I see a hint of the same magic I felt when working on the first Star Wars and Indy films. I think today's audiences will be surprised and receptive to Chassis. It's going to be something they haven't seen before."

Chassis is set in the world of rocket car racing in a retro-futuristic 1949.

"It's the story of a young woman who longs to be a rocket racer but her father won't allow it. Partly due to the dangers involved in the high speed race, but mostly because of the dangerous and nefarious men who run the sport," said Chassis creator and President of Hurricane Entertainment, William O'Neill.

For next week's Comic-Con International in San Diego, Hurricane and Burtt have created a four-minute live-action short to show off the world of Chassis to the public.

"We have some fantastic CGI shots of the rocket cars that just blew me away." said Hurricane's Jan Utstein-O'Neill. "They were created by the very talented folks at Third Floor Studios, a start-up company consisting of the team that did the pre-visualization on Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith."

Also helping on the film is Episode III concept artist Ryan Church.

The short will have its world premiere next week in San Diego on Saturday, July 16 at 1 p.m.

Hurricane Entertainment will also be premiering a special convention exclusive Chassis Comic Book at its booth. Included is a short story written and drawn by William O'Neill, an exclusive interview with Burtt, and a cover by Ryan Church. It will have a limited print run of 1,500.

TEEN TITANS UPDATE

The second part of the three-part "The End" episode of Teen Titans will make its premiere on Cartoon Network on Saturday.

Here's how the network describes the story:

"The stars are aligned. The sun is in eclipse. All of Slade's labors are about to reach fruition -- and the Teen Titans are about to face their greatest challenge ever. But they question if there is really any hope of preventing the end of the world."

In other Teen Titans news, Bandai America will be giving fans a limited edition 1.5-inch translucent figure of Beast Boy during its special Teen Titans event at Comic-Con International in San Diego on Saturday, July 16 from 4:45 p.m.-6:45 p.m.

Voice talent scheduled to appear include Ron Perlman (Slade), Khary Payton (Cyborg), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), Hynden Walch (Starfire) and Tara Strong (Raven). Producers David Slack and Glenn Murakami, who specially designed an exclusive autograph card for Comic-Con attendees, will also be at the Bandai booth.

ONI PRESS' PENG

Oni Press has announced a September release of Peng, a new one-shot comic from Corey Lewis. Lewis, who took the comic industry by surprise with Sharknife, turns his unconventional eye to the world of professional kickball, with high octane results.

Here's how the book is described:

"For Rocky Hallelujah and his friends, ADV Kickball is the meaning of life. Itıs all they talk about, practice, and play. Itıs not just a sport, itıs a way of life, and thereıs no one better at it than Rocky Hallelujah. Heıll have to prove that, however, against three fierce teams at the ADV Kickball finals.

"Rocky Hallelujah heads up the Foot Knux, a team made up of diversely talented players, including Sassy Elmetto and Ven Morcada. Theyıre joined in the climactic playoffs by two rival teams, and the villainous team known as the Aroura Skeddos, fronted by the evil Jeeyuh Yeeauh."

"Kickball, for those who donıt know, is played like baseball, but instead of a bat, you kick a large, inflated rubber ball with your foot," Lewis said. "In Peng, the game is Advanced kickball, which has more of a martial arts style, combined with sports rules and points and innings.²

"Peng will be 64 black-and-whie pages and will cost $5.95.
