Saturday, July 16, 2005COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL: ASPEN PANELSAN DIEGO -- Aspen Comics' Michael Turner said that the Fathom live-action movie at 20th Century Fox is "as close as it's ever been" to becoming a reality.
"We have new writers who worked on King Tut (Sean O'Keefe and Will Staptles)," Turner said on Friday at the Aspen Comics panel. "I'm meeting with them on Tuesday and hopefully the script will be done the first week of August.
"The script looks really good. It's more of a Fathom prequel with Aspen, not quite as big as before, so it's not this crazy movie.
"I'm really excited about it, Fox is really excited about it and they're really hoping to make it."
Turner said a director for the film has not been attached yet.
"We'll go after big-name directors because we want to do it well," he said.
In other news from the panel:
* Turner said he is feeling better these days. "The health thing was pretty tough for about four months, but I'm doing fine."
* Turner said the original Ekos series will run eight to 12 issues. "It's going to be one of our larger stories," he said. "And we have lots of ideas for the second and third arcs. I'm looking forward to it."
* Aspen has several projects in the works with DC Comics, including more Supergirl
* The Platinum Edition of the Soulfire Grace Statue will go on sale on Aug. 10. The regular edition has sold out.
* The first two issues of Fathom: Cannon Hawke are targeted for an October release.
