J. SCOTT CAMPBELL TALKS WILDSIDERZ

J. Scott Cambpell said he's returning to more of his Disney influences with Wildsiderz, which, after a #0 issue, launches on Wednesday from DC Comics and WildStorm Productions.

"I'm trying to keep things bouncy and open and more fun," Campbell said at the recent Comic-Con International in San Diego. "I think there is an audience sort of clamoring for the all-ages kind of fun comic book."

Here's how DC describes the book, which Campbell writes with Andy Hartnell:

"Five young friends tap into a radical new technology that transforms and empowers them with animalistic abilities! But just what will ordinary teenagers do when they take on extraordinary alter-egos? Will they abuse their newfound powers to climb the high school hierarchy or hone their skills to become the next generation of heroes?"

The first issue will be 40 pages and reveals how the technology is created and how the Wildsiderz are forced into action to stop it from falling into the wrong hands.

While Cambpell said he's interested in working on some of comics' more iconic characters -- "It seems like a trend," he said -- he still has plenty of his own projects.

"I have two or three creator-owned ideas I really want to get to the page before I get too old," he said, noting of them is a Western and that he also has more ideas for Danger Girl.

It's been a while since Campbell was drawing Danger Girl, and he feels he has something to prove again.

"Hype's not going to get me a free pass," he said. "I always approach each project as if nobody had ever knew me. This has been more of an extended hiatus, and I have the feeling I have to find my way back. I think it's a healthy idea because I want each project to stand on its own and not on past work."

This issue of Wildsiderz will ship with two covers by Campbell in a 50/50 ratio. In addition, there will be a lenticular cover variant featuring multiple images of a scene that when tilted gives the illusion of movement.
