WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO: MARVEL KNIGHTS PANEL

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Kevin Smith crashed the Marvel Knights panel at Wizard World Chicago on Friday, notifying fans that he has completed writing on Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do.

"It's done, Terry (Dodson) is drawing it and I've turned in #6," Smith said of the project initiated nearly three years ago.

Editor Axel Alonso said plans are for a Mighty Marvel Must Have in November that will collect the first three issues, with bonus material including an eight-page preview of #4. Issues #4-5 are targeted for December, and #6 is targeted for January.

Before leaving the stage, Smith was asked to comment about the status of the also-delayed Daredevil: Target. He shook his head and joked, "Daredevil fights Bullseye, guess who wins?"

In other highlights from the panel:

* Calling it "the worst-kept secret in comics," Joe Quesada allowed Brian Michael Bendis to introduce Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark as the next creative team on Daredevil, with Bendis literally handing Daredevil's billy club to Brubaker.

Bendis said that his run on Daredevil ends with "The Murdock Papers," which would only work if the writer that followed him could pick up on the elements from that story. He and Brubaker worked together to make that happen.

* Michael Avon Oeming and Travel Foreman are teaming on Ares: God of War, targeted for December. "We've received the first 10-11 pages that have been drawn on this project, and they're career changing," Alonso said of Foreman's art.

* Following a two-part crossover with X-Men, Black Panther will feature Luke Cage, Shang-Chi, Falcon and Blade. The comes what Alonso calls "a monster arc" that will put Black Panther at the heart of the Marvel Universe. Reginal Hudlin remains writer despite recently becoming president of entertainment at BET. He will be leaving Marvel Knights Spider-Man, though.

* Punisher vs. Bullseye is a five-issue mini-series by Daniel Way and Steve Dillon that will launch in November. "It's five issues of two hard mothers going after on another," Alonso said. The story involves a mob boss who has escaped the Punisher and offers a bounty on him, which Bullseye takes.

* Supreme Powers ends its MAX run with #18, and Alonso said that February will be a big month for the title as it moves to Marvel Knights.

* The X-Statix team of Peter Milligan and Mike Allred reunite for an X-Statix Dead Girl mini-series.

* December's Punisher Christmas Special is by Andy Diggle and Kyle Hotz.

* Quesada said there are no plans for more Shanna the She-Devil or a Namor series.

* Asked if lower-tier characters would be revitalized in Marvel Knights, consultant and former editor C.B. Cebulski said that Robert Kirkman has a tentatively titled "League of Losers" story planned for Marvel Team-Up #16-24 that would feature many such characters.
