THE BATMAN UPDATE

Steve Melching, a regular contributor to Kids' WB!'s The Batman, wrote "Night and the City," which will have its network premiere on Saturday.

"It was written as the second-season finale, but now it looks like we're gonna be going straight into season three without a break," Melching said. "We conceived 'Night and the City' as a big story, with Batman facing off against three of the big villains -- Joker, Penguin, and Riddler -- in the midst of a 'turf war' for control of Gotham. In the middle of all that Commissioner Gordon returns to the city he left years ago, a nominal ally of Batman's, while Police Chief Rojas pulls out all the stops in an effort to arrest the vigilante crimefighter.

"It was a really fun story to write, and it ended up being so packed with stuff that we had to cut out some neat material. But maybe we'll be able to use it later. That's television for you!"

Melching said he wrote four episodes of the upcoming season.

"I think it's going to be a very strong run," Melching said. "Lots of action and humor."

THE BLVD

Sean Chen, Tommy Lee Edwards, Bernard Chang, John Paul Leon and Trevor Goring have teamed up to produce a new jam sketchbook called The BLVD.

The book contains more than 100 pages of never-before-seen sketches from the five artists. Collectively, the BLVD sketchbook displays everything from life-drawing and preliminary thumbnails, to layout drawings and character designs for clients such as Marvel, DC, EA Games, Warner Bros, Lucasfilm, and more.

Also included is a 12-page tutorial, which gives insight into each of the BLVD creator's method of storytelling. Edwards, Leon, Chang, Goring, and Chen demonstrate how to take the script to a finished page of sequential art. They cover composition, storytelling, technique, and more. The reader will get to see what it takes these five artists to create comics like X-Men, The Question, Batman, The Wintermen, Elektra and Waterloo Sunset.

The BLVD will have its official release at Wizard World Boston on Sept. 30-Oct 2. Leon, Chen, Chang and Edwards will all be in the convention's Artist Alley, and the BLVD sketchbook will be available for purchase there.
