SMALLVILLE'S AQUAMAN

The WB has released four images from "Aqua," the episode of Smallville that introduces Aquaman, played by Alan Ritchson.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"A summer beach party at Crater Lake takes a dramatic turn when Lois (Erica Durance) hits her head while jumping into the lake. Before Clark (Tom Welling) can save her, a mysterious swimmer, Aquaman, a.k.a. AC (Alan Ritchson), comes to her rescue, out-swimming Clark and leaving him baffled. Professor Fine (James Marsters) tells Clark that Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) is behind a covert operation manufacturing weapons. AC attempts to break into the Luthercorp Marine Center in an attempt to destroy one of Lex's torpedoes and is captured by Lex."

Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer wrote the episode, which was directed by Bradford May.

WEIR, DEFILIPPIS END NEW X-MEN RUN

Writers Christina Weir and Nunzio DeFilippis are ending their run on Marvel Comics' New X-Men with a bang. Their last issue on the title is the conclusion to the House of M tie-in arc in New X-Men #19 and then they finish up with New X-Men: Academy X Yearbook Special.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"New X-Men: Academy X Yearbook Special finds the young mutants at their lowest. In-fighting amongst the group has led the squad's future to be called into question. Can they work out their problems and become a team again? Rounding out the yearbook theme, this special contains all new handbook pages of both the New X-Men and Hellions team."

"While House Of M was a fun ride, we wanted one last chance to touch base with our kids," Weir said. "The Hellions mini was a nice wrap-up to the Hellions, so we used the Yearbook Issue to get back to our core group and tie up a few loose ends. It was a fun issue to write but also a little bittersweet as we said goodbye to the characters we spent 2 1/2 years with."

New X-Men #19 featurs an all-out brawl in the House of M as the New Mutants go toe-to-toe with the Hellions. The two schools have one final battle royale and Emperor Sunfire is waiting to pounce on whoever emerges from the scuffle.

"The House of M arc is for everyone who wanted to see a little more action in our book," DeFilippis said. "The altered reality allowed us to go wild, not just in terms of cast, but in terms of action and surprises. Mike Marts (editor) kept urging us to really cut loose and do things we'd never do in the regular book, and issue 19 is where a lot of his urgings takes shape. I don't think many readers will expect the way we end things there, but I hope they'll all enjoy it."

Both books will be on sale on Oct. 26.

G.I. JOE ROUNDUP

Writer Josh Blaylock is returning to G.I. Joe, and hešs bringing Zartan with him. Along with Joe Casey's ongoing story, a separate two-part series will be featured in G.I. Joe: Americašs Elite #5 and G.I. Joe Americašs Elite #6.

The extra story will shed light in a dark corner of Zartanšs world while dropping two G.I. Joe characters into the thick of it.

"Joe Casey hit the ground running and has kept a serious pace from jump," said DDP editor Mike OšSullivan. "We can see the full force of his large=scale story while focusing in on the covert aspect of the team. It's impossible to get enough of everything he's bringing to the table!" "Out of all the G.I. Joe stories I've written, those involving the Dreadnoks were the most well received," Blaylock said. "So I'm excited to do this story. It really gets to the heart of Zartan and his siblings."

Both issues will be 48 pages and will cost $4.50.
