MOTOR CITY COMIC CON: GREY DELISLE

NOVI, Mich. -- Grey DeLisle, who has performed more than 100 voice roles in animated series and video games over the past eight years, told The Continuum she is providing the voice of Wasp in the Ultimate Avengers animated movie.

"I just did my ADR and it looks terrific," DeLisle told The Continuum on Saturday at the Motor City Comic Con.

Later, DeLisle shared a panel with fellow voiceover actor Ron Paulsen at the convention, where she talked more about the direct-to-DVD film.

"They wanted something normal, a little more mature," she said of her approach to the character. "They showed me some photos and character designs and it all made sense."

DeLisle, 33, said she also auditioned for the role of Black Widow in the film, but that part went to Olivia D'Abo.

"She has the right accent," DeLisle said. "She's more European."

DeLisle has worked with Marvel characters before, voicing the Invisible Woman and Mystique in video games. She also voiced Queen Amidala and Asajj Ventress in Star Wars: Clone Wars and Downpour and Shifter in Justice League Unlimited.

Most of her recent animated work, though, has been in such kids fare as Scooby-Doo (Daphne), Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi (Yumi), The Fairly Odd Parents (Vicki), The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (Mandy), Danny Phantom (Sam) and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (Frankie).

"I love cartoons," DeLisle said, admitting she often records shows in which she's performed.

She also loves music, releasing released four albums, including 2005's Iron Flowers. DeLisle married musician Murry Hammond, the bassist for the Old 97's, in 2002.

She actually was a standup comedian at one point, in which her knack for impressions led her to voice acting. She said she "crashed" a Disney audition, got the role and that snowballed over the last eight years.

"It didn't take her long to make a mark," Paulsen said.

In addition to Ultimate Avengers, DeLisle said she would be involved with the CGI Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
