Sony Pictures ended months of speculation -- apparently -- by posting a photograph of Thomas Haden Church on the official Spider-Man movie site.

Under the Daily Bugle headline, "Guess who?," the picture is captioned with the phrase "Thomas Haden Church as Flint Marko." That, and the distinctive clothing all indicate Church will be playing the Sandman.

Sony Pictures did not respond by deadline for confirmation.

There's no word yet on who Topher Grace is playing in the film, although most speculation centers around Venom or Electro.

Church, 44, is coming off an Oscar-nominated role in Sideways. He has been working out extensively for his Spider-Man 3 role.

Production is expected to begin early next year. - Anime Super Store

Flying solo at the Mondo Marvel panel Saturday at Wizard World Texas, editor Nick Lowe provided the audience with a first look at the cover to Astonishing X-Men #13.

The issue, marking the return of Joss Whedon and John Cassaday, is targeted for February

"It picks up dealing with that last-page spread in Astonishing X-Men #12, and what looked like a little Hellfire Club action," Lowe said.

The image that caused the most stir during the panel, though, was from a two-page spread from Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk in which the Hulk literally rips Wolverine into two.

Michael Turner said the Fathom live-action movie continues to be as close as it has to becoming a reality at 20th Century Fox.

"The latest script is at Fox and hopefully we'll know in a couple of weeks," Turner said Saturday at the Aspen Comics panel at Wizard World Texas. "It's kind of wait-and-find-out on how the script is taken by Fox."
