Wednesday, January 4, 2006SAM KIETH EXCLUSIVE TO DC COMICSSam Kieth, writer/illustrator of The Maxx and Zero Girl, has signed an exclusive agreement with DC Comics. Kieth will write and illustrate the five-issue mini-series Batman: Secrets, scheduled to begin in March.
"I seriously have no clue why DC offered me a contract, as I've never had one in my life," Kieth said. "I think I talked Dan DiDio into it before he knew what he was doing. But since I've been working at DC for a while, I guess it just sorta made sense.
"With Batman: Secrets, this is the Batman I was looking to do in Scratch -- one who's more more serious and realistic ... or as realistic as I get. I think I did this Batman project because I was looking forward to working with Scott Dunbier again, and I wanted to draw the Joker, plus I needed the money! I do want to thank Dan and Scott for helping me working out this plot with the Batman/Joker thing."
"It's a true pleasure to be working with Sam again," said WildStorm Executive Editor Scott Dunbier. "His stories are quirky and thought-provoking while still being highly entertaining, and his art... well, it's just gorgeous."
"Sam brings such incredible creativity to the DCU," said Dan DiDio, Senior VP -- Executive Editor, DCU. "His presence shows the extent and the breadth of our diversity."

RED SONJA/CLAW THE UNCONQUERED Two figures of sword and sorcery will meet for the first time in March in Red Sonja/Claw the Unconquered: Devil's Hands #1, the debut issue of a four-part mini-series.
Written by John Layman with art by Andy Smith and covers by Alex Ross and Jim Lee, the mini-series gets underway when the she-devil with a sword and the cursed warrior are thrown together as unlikely allies. Together, they must face a despotic evil sorcerer who was once a friend to Red Sonja but is now her sworn enemy -- and who also may hold the key to unlocking the terrible curse that Claw must endure.
"I'm excited about Red Sonja/Claw for every reason you can imagine," Layman said. "Dynamite's books are consistently smart and gorgeous and high-quality, and it's always a pleasure to work with my old friends and family at WildStorm. To take a cool and classic DC character and re-imagine and update it is just about every comics writer's dream. There's a lot I could go on about, starting with the Jim Lee and Alex Ross cover and the absolutely beautiful interior art by Andy Smith, who is truly a great artist -- and it shows in every page."
"It's a great feeling to be working on two such iconic characters as Red Sonja and Claw," Smith said. "Putting Alex Ross and Jim Lee art on the covers brings great attention to two great characters and the work we're doing inside the book. John Layman has crafted an action-packed, intense story that I'm sure will please every fan out there! When drawing this story I feel like Babe Ruth, stepping up to bat and pointing to the sky because I want to knock this one out of the park!"
Red Sonja/Claw the Unconquered: Devil's Hands #1 will be available in the Standard Edition, featuring cover art by Ross, and the Variant Edition, featuring cover art by Lee. Retailers may order one copy of the Variant Edition for every 10 copies of the Standard Edition ordered.
