MS. MARVEL RETURNS

Marvel Comics on Monday provided The Continuum with a preview of Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1,

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"After seeing how great a superhero she can really be during the events of House of M, Ms. Marvel has begun to put her troubled past behind her and move forward. Carol Danvers has decided to get her game together and fulfill her potential as the greatest hero in the Marvel Universe starting in Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1.

"Spinning out of events in House of M, Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1 contains an all-new 16 page story by the creative team of Brian Reed and hot new penciler Rob De La Torre; the same team launching Ms. Marvel into her first ongoing series in two decades coming this March."

Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1 also reprints Captain Marvel #18, which features the first appearance of Ms. Marvel, her untold secret origin from Ms. Marvel #1-2 as well as the first appearance of her signature costume in Ms. Marvel #20.

Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1 will be 96 pages for $4.99 and will go on sale on Feb. 15. The new ongoing Ms. Marvel title launches on March 1.

STEVE ENGLEHART TALKS BLACK RIDER

Writer Steve Englehart announced on Monday that he and Marshall Rogers are teaming up again for Black Rider, a one-shot that is part of Marvel's upcoming Western event.

"Marshall Rogers and I got the gig because of Dark Detective - Black Rider dresses in black, and he's mysterious, see - but we decided to run with that," Englehart said. "So instead of doing an actual Western, we had BR come east, to New York in 1881, when the city ended at 97th street and Manhattan island north was its own frontier. BR, in his normal identity of 'kindly Doc Masters,[ is a hick in the big city -- but the Black Rider is hunting down a Chinese prostitution ring, and the Black Rider is a very twisted individual.

"One telling detail: in the Kirby origin story from back in the day, he trained his horse to have a secret identity before he decided he himself needed one!. People have tried to claim that the Batman is insane, but we won't be having that argument over BR.

"But that's not all, because in Chinatown, BR meets a gentleman both Marshall and I have met before: a gentleman who'll one day become known as the Ancient One. And Yao, as we call him -- don't tell anyone, but it stands for Young Ancient One -- has a few more peculiar friends. They might even form their own peculiar group -- but that would come in future issues of Black Rider, and those will only appear if the one-shot sells."

On the DC front, Englehart said there will be another Dark Detective later this year, and he's working on a four-part JLA Classified and a three-part JSA Classfied. Both are unscheduled.

BRIEFLY

* Marvel Comics has announced a second printing for the sold-out Marvel Zombies #1. The printing, which will have a variant cover, will be in stores on Feb. 8.

"I couldn't be more thrilled to hear about the success from this series," writer Robert Kirkman said. "I think one thing to take note of with this book is that Marvel has gone above and beyond to allow me to do whatever I want with this series. I'm actually pretty amazed with how far they've let me and artist Sean Phillips go and the risks they've taken in doing so. The amount of creative freedom I've been given with this project has only been exactly the same as what I've been given on my creator-owned books."
