Cartoon Network will stage its premiere of the "Patriot Act" episode of Justice League Unlimited on Saturday at 10:30 p.m.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"When an out of control super soldier threatens Metropolis, Green Arrow leads seven non-powered Justice Leaguers, including Crimson Avenger and Shining Knight, in a battle they can't hope to win."

Writer/story editor Matt Wayne provide The Continuum with insights into the episode:

"Joaquim Dos Santos directed 'Patriot Act,' but for the teaser Dan Riba, who's a big fan of old movie serials, provided a lot of reference -- including a copy of the 1940s Spy Smasher serial -- to Dave Bullock, who storyboarded that sequence," Wayne said.

"There's a nod to last year's Cadmus storyline, which means I got to write a scene for C.C.H. Pounder as Waller and J.K. Simmons as General Eiling. If if weren't for the way they knocked this scene out of the park (and for Joaquim's direction--he's not just an action wunderkind), the melee in the second half wouldn't be as scary. They put across the idea that Eiling's close to the edge, without the kind of histrionics you've seen a million times.

"This script's kind of a watershed for me. In the course of writing it, I started to feel like I'm part of the JLU team."

Renae Geerlings, a 9-year veteran of comic-book editorial, will take over as editor-in-chief at Top Cow Productions, effective March 1.

"Renae has shown time and time again that she's an expert in all areas of our business," said Top Cow founder and CEO Marc Silvestri. "In story sense, scheduling, talent relations, and anything else that comes up, she's the tops. We're proud and happy to give her this well-deserved promotion."

"Over the last decade, I've come to know a lot of Top Cow fans personally, and I feel a huge responsibility to them for all of their support and friendship," Geerlings said. "Meanwhile, outgoing editor-in-chief Jim McLauchlin raised the bar during his tenure with books such as Common Grounds, Freshmen, and Wanted, so I have big shoes to fill. I'm honored to work side by side with Marc Silvestri to continue our tradition of high-quality art and great stories."

McLauchlin will return to his prior career as a sportswriter and broadcaster, where he will be working for FHM, Playboy, Baseball America and Fox. He will remain with Top Cow as a sales and marketing consultant for the next 12 months. McLauchlin will also remain in the comic business as the president of the charitable organization ACTOR.

Marvel Commics on Tuesday announced that Giant-Size Ms. Marvel #1 has sold out at Diamond and issued a further preview of the upcoming Ms. Marvel #1.

The new ongoing series is written by Brian Reed, with art by Roberto De La Torre. Frank Cho does the cover, and Michael Turner is providing a variant cover to the first issue.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Ms. Marvel has always struggled with mediocrity, but after seeing her potential realized in the House of M, Carol Danvers decides she is going to be the best super hero she can be.

"Her conviction is going to be put to the test right out the gate as an alien invasion of the Brood threatens to destroy Earth and only Ms. Marvel stands in their way. But is it really an invasion or are the Brood looking to hide from something even more sinister than themselves?"

The first issue goes on sale March 1. Click on the thumbnails for larger images.
