NEW YORK COMIC-CON: MONDO MARVEL PANEL

Javier Saltares and Mark Texeira are returning to Ghost Rider in a big way, as the artists of an ongoing monthly title that is launching in July.

The book, which was announced at the Mondo Marvel panel at the New York Comic-Con, will be written by Daniel Way, who also worked with the artists on Wolverine.

"We find out what Johnny Blaze is doing in hell," editor Axel Alonso said. "It turns out someone killed him, and so he is sent back to Earth with a mission."

NEW YORK COMIC-CON: JIM LEE PANEL

Jim Lee, already the artist on two titles, has been working on another major gig: DC publishing Paul Levitz announced Saturday at Lee's New York Comic-Con panel that he is the executive creative director for the DCU-based multiplayer online game.

The game, announced last year, will be produced by Warner Bros. Interactive and Sony Online Entertainment. Lee and a stable of WildStorm artists have been working on the game for seven months.

NEW YORK COMIC-CON: VERTIGO PANEL

Brian K. Vaughan said his planned ending for Y: The Last Man is targeted for the 60th issue.

"It will be a double-sized finale issue," he said during DC Comics' Vertigo panel at the New York Comic-Con. "I've got it plotted out to the last panel. A lot of stuff will be answered and a lot of people will die."

NEW YORK COMIC-CON: TAMORA PIERCE ON WHITE TIGER

Marvel Comics on Friday announced it has signed Tamora Pierce, author of more than 20 novels, to an exclusive deal.

Pierce's first project for Marvel will be White Tiger. She will be joined in the White Tiger script-writing by her husband, web designer and former Video magazine writer and Computer Game Entertainment editor Tim Liebe. Liebe is co-writing #3 and #4 of the arc, and he and Pierce have worked together on the plot from the beginning.

Pierce is best known for her action-packed adventures for young female readers. Her books include Alanna: The First Adventure, Wild Magic, Lady Knight, Street Magic, Trickster's Queen, The Will Of The Empress and this fall's Terrier.

"Working with Marvel is the realization of one of my longest-held dreams," Pierce said. "The first believable kick-butt female heroes I ever encountered were Marvel Comics 1970s Colleen Wing and Misty Knight. Ever since reading the Daughters of the Dragon and discovering how powerful a good female comic hero could be, I've wanted to try my hand at creating for Marvel. Working with my Marvel editor, Ruwan Jayatilleke, I've become convinced that White Tiger is going to very seriously rock!"

To say that having Tamora at Marvel is a coup for us is to make a pointed understatement," Marvel Publisher Dan Buckley said. "Her name is synonymous with female-oriented fantasy literature, her works bestsellers, and her fans devoted and illuminated. That she was willing to sit down with us, listen to what we had to offer, is one of the best things that has happened on my watch at Marvel."

David Mack will be providing character designs and painted covers for the series.

"I had a blast redesigning the White Tiger character," Mack said. "One of the charms of working on a Marvel project is the spirit of collaboration involved. I loved working with George Perez's previous design, and with the suggestions of Tammy and Joe Quesada to make the covers to this series something unique and very special."

An artist for the book was not named.

ASPEN SPLASH

Aspen Comics has provided The Continuum with a preview of Aspen Splash #1, set for release the second week of March.

The book marks first pin-up collection released from Aspen. It features a wide assortment of different art styles in addition to several guest artists and the entire stable of Aspen creators and artists.

"We didnšt want your standard pinup book or the usual swimsuit fare, so the Splash issue has a different mix of pieces featuring a range of characters from the Aspen universes in fun and unique perspectives," said Aspen founder Michael Turner.

"I think everyone who contributed to the book had a great time on their pieces because it really shows in the final art. Many of these guys had never drawn these characters before, and it was great seeing their take on the characters as the pieces were turned in."

Guest artists include Humberto Ramos, Billy Tan, Gabrielle Del Otto, Francisco Herrera, Khari Evans and Talent Caldwell.

Aspen creators contributing include Turner, Koi Turnbull, Peter Steigerwald, Marcus To and Micah Gunnell. Turner and Peter Steigerwald provided the cover.

Aspen Splash #1 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99. Click on the thumbnails above for larger images.
