STREET SESSIONS

Street Sessions: Volume One, a sketchbook from the League of Urban Artists, will debut at Wizard World Los Angeles next week.

The book of original art will be available throughouth the upcoming convention season. Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, Joel Gomez, Vince Hernandez, Francisco Herrera, Francis Manapul, Frank Mastromauro, Mark Roslan, LeSean Thomas, Marcus To, and Koi Turnbull are artists contributing to Street Sessions: Volume One, set to debut exclusively at Wizard World Los Angeles.

"The rules we laid out for this book from day one were that there weren't going to be any rules, in terms of what each artist wanted to bring to the project, this was entirely up to them," said Roslan, the book's designer. The only theme each creator agreed upon was to keep the subject matter urban. Overall, this sketchbook far exceeded my expectations as every artist shot for the fences with their work."

The plan for Sessions was set in motion last convention season when the creators began brainstorming as to how to create a fresh take on a sketchbook. Each creator/artist decided to play upon their strengths and go for the urban look to the book.

"Since all of us had regular series or projects we were working hard on for our individual companies, we all agreed to create pieces for Sessions that were completely unique and from our own demented minds," Turnbull said. "Some of the pieces will definitely surprise people."

Street Sessions Volume One contains sketches, pin-ups, and sequential art from the group, and as a bonus, includes an all-new original six-page short story by Mastromauro and Hernandez. They joined up to create a tale of tragedy and downright violent behavior with religious overtures.

"We wanted to lend a striking story to the sketchbook, with an emphasis on striking as readers will find out," said Mastromauro, who who co-wrote and provided the art for the short story.

Street Sessions: Volume One is 32 black-and-white pages and will cost $10. It will be available at Wizard World Los Angeles 2006 at Jay Company Comics booth and at Manapul's booth in Artists' Alley.
