LEGION OF SUPER HEROES ANIMATED UPDATE

Andy Milder, voice of Lightning Lad in the upcoming Legion of Super Heroes animated series, told The Continuum he "couldn't think of a way to be more excited" about getting the role.

"I read the Legion books like crazy when I was a kid," Milder told The Continuum. "My older brother is 11 years my senior and collected them, so I started near the very beginning. While I confess to falling out for some years in the 80s and 90s, I keep my eye on them.

"Lightning Lad, however -- this is a true honor. A founding member and, for my money, one of the coolest-powered heroes? Fantastic."

The Legion series is being produced at Warner Bros. Animation, which has not officially announced the show yet. It is expected to premiere on Kids' WB! and eventually also air on Cartoon Network, a la The Batman.

Milder told The Continuum voice recording has already begun on the series, with Kelly Ward as the voice director.

In the series, Lightning Lad is the Legion's field leader. Other prominent members will include Superboy, Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, Timber Wolf, Phantom Girl and Bouncing Boy.

An early episode, likely the first, will explain how Superboy winds up in the 31st Century.

Other Legion members will appear, and the Fatal Five will be among the villains.

Above is a look at a working logo for Legion of Super Heroes, which likely won't be the final one.

ASPEN COMICS' SHRUGGED

Aspen Comics has provided The Contibuum a look at its new series Shrugged.

The series will launch at Wizard World Los Angeles next week, featuring the release of the Shrugged Preview. The Shrugged Preview will be followed by Shrugged Beginnings in April, Shrugged #0 in May and Shrugged #1 in June.

Created by Michael Turner, Shrugged will be different in scope than any of Aspen's previous comic-book properties.

"Shrugged is a psychological adventure focusing on the choices made everyday, right or wrong, by its main character Theo," Turner said. "The tale examines these choices and the voices in Theo's head dictating his every decision. Only this time, one part of Theo's conscience isn't merely satisfied being just a bystander. That's when all hell breaks loose!

"It's a series that is a departure from the Fathom or Soulfire universes, but one that I'm extremely excited to be introducing to our line of comic books."

The series is written by Turner and Frank Mastromauro and will feature artwork by Micah Gunnell, with inks by Jason Gorder and colors by Beth Sotelo.

"Micah Gunnell's penciling style is a perfect fit for the theme of Shrugged, and the overall look of the new universe the book exists in," Mastromauro said. "Micah brings a fresh style that will definitely capitalize on the uniqueness of the property."
