FIRST LOOK: THE TALES OF ALVIN MAKER -- RED PROPHET #1 The Tales of Alvin Maker -- Red Prophet #1 will arrive in stores on Wednesday from Dabel Bros. Production. The issue is written Orson Scott Card and adapted by Roland Bernard Brown, with art by Renato Arlem and covers by Arlem and John Buxton.
Here's how DB Pro describes the issue:
"It's the 19th century, and Napoleon is in command of an army in Detroit.
Andrew Jackson is a lawyer from Tenezzy, and William Henry Harrison is the
self-appointed governor of Wobbish just east of the Mizzipy river. And
somewhere up north, in a small town called Vigor Church, is a young boy
named Alvin who is the seventh son of a seventh son, with the power to shape
the world around him. These are the tales of Orson Scott Card's Alvin
Maker, which takes place in an alternate American history where folk magic
really works. And this is the story of the Red Prophet where Alvin finds
himself caught in a war between the Red men and the Whites on the American
frontier.
"The first issue brings the setting into play as the riverboat trader Hooch
Palmer sails into Carthage City with a fresh supply of whiskey. As Hooch
comes into town, he learns that Governor Harrison plans to wipe out the
native Reds with "likker," which dulls their sensibilities and prevents them
from communicating with the land. But the proud Ta-Kumsaw has other plans
for his people ... even if it means plunging both Red man and White man into
a bloody, brutal war."
The Tales of Alvin Maker -- Red Prophet #1 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.95 (Cover B, $5.95).
