X-MEN: THE LAST STAND UPDATEX-Men: The Last Stand will be part of the 59th Cannes Film Festival, Variey is reporting.
The film will open on May 26, during the second week of the festival.
In other X-Men: The Last Stand news:

* The film's television campaign has begun.
G.I. JOE: DECLASSIFIEDLarry Hama is returning to G.I. Joe in June, with the launch of G.I. Joe: Declassified, a three-issue mini-series from Devil's Due Publishing.
The mini-series will tell the unbelievable story of how the G.I. Joe team became the elite fighting force that they are today. In the vein of the popular Snake-Eyes: Declassified limited series, the mini-series will be 48-pages and bi-monthly. Art will be by Pat Quinn, with a cover by Francis Manapul.
"Fans have always wondered exactly how G.I. Joe became the Cobra-smacking, force of nature it is," said Sam Wells, DDP assistant publisher. "Who were they before they were G.I. Joes? When did romances and hatreds begin? Now, after nearly 20 years of waiting, fans are finally getting the chance to find out, and I can't wait."
"The years before G.I. Joe #1 is a period of G.I. Joe story we have yet to really tap," said DDP Editor Mike O'Sullivan. ³I'm excited that we're finally getting the chance to have the man who started it all tell this story, and I think fans will be pleasantly surprised. It won't happen quite like everyone thinks it will."
Here's how Devils Due describes the first issue:
"In the face of growing threats to freedom, the U.S. creates an elite team of soldiers to become a daring new anti-terrorist force: G.I. Joe! The recruitment of the original 13 agents, and the missions that happened before G.I. Joe #1 are finally revealed! Also, a deadly anger brews in the heart of a frustrated used car salesman... Cobra is coming... Three issues of classic military action written by the man who started the whole saga! This is where all the death-defying action and military adventure you've come to know and love began. Featuring: Hawk! Stalker! Scarlett! Snake-Eyes! Breaker! Rock 'N Roll! Grunt! Steeler! Clutch! Grand Slam! Short-Fuse! Flash! and Zap! ... like you've never seen them before."
PETER DAVID TO WRITE THE DARK TOWERMarvel Comics has tapped Peter David to script the first seven issues of the new comic-book series adapted from Stephen King's The Dark Tower. The first issue is scheduled to debut in February.
"You have to understand: To me, it was yesterday that I was standing on line at a Stephen King book signing, telling him that I was an aspiring writer, and he inscribed a copy of Danse Macabre with 'To Peter: Best of luck on your writing career.' Since then I've had a great deal of luck, and this opportunity is‹by me‹one of the luckiest breaks of them all," David said.
"I'm extremely excited to be a part of such a highly anticipated project, and am looking forward to contributing however much I can to King's epic fantasy. I just wish I could go back and tell the kid on the autograph line; he probably wouldn't believe it."
Here's how Marvel describes the book:
"The series will expand the saga of King's epic hero, Roland Deschain, whose quest to save the Dark Tower is captured in seven best-selling novels published over the course of twenty-five years. The new stories delve into the life and times of the young Roland, revealing the trials and conflicts that lead to the burden of destiny he must assume as a man, the last Gunslinger from a world that has moved on. The comics will work in conjunction with the novels, further supplementing and defining the saga's mythology under the direction of the acclaimed author himself."
The series will be illustrated by Jae Lee.
BRIEFLY * President Winema Wazzo will appear in the upcoming Legion of Super Heroes animated series.
