BLACK WIDOW MOVIE STALLED

Screenwriter David Hayter told The Continuum that the Black Widow movie he was developing has been shelved.

The film had been set up at Lionsgate, where Hayter was attached to write and direct. He had worked on the project for nearly two years.

Perhaps observing the lackluster returns for other female action hero films like Elektra and Aeon Flux, Lionsgate let go of the property.

"Marvel and I then spoke to a few other financing entities, but I never felt comfortable that we had found a place that was willing to take the movie, and the character, seriously," said Hayter, who was also stymied in his attempt to bring Watchmen to the big screen. "I have put it aside until the right situation comes along, but in the meantime, I am heartbroken. I love this character, I love the story and world we came up with for her, and I sincerely hope the movie gets done some day.

"In the meantime, I am creating an original feature to shoot next year."

Hayter worked on the first two X-Men movies, as well as early drafts of Hulk and Iron Man.

BLADE: THE SERIES' DAVID PALFFY

Canadian actor David Palffy is playing Fritz in Spike TV's upcoming Blade: The Series. The character is pictured on the left side of the photo above, along with Neil Jackson's Marcus Van Sciver and Jessica Gower's Chase.

"Yes, I'm a bad guy again. He's a very bad vampire," said Palffy, how recently played Anubis in Stargate SG-1.

"I'm the one who hunts Blade down. And, as usual, you have a life expectancy where it could end at any time."

Palffy's credits also include guest-spots on comics-inspired shows Jeremiah, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven and NightMan.

Palffy is married to Smallville's Erica Durance and shared the stage with her at Wizard World Philadelphia.

HAWAIIAN DICK MINI FINALE

Image Comics on Monday announced that, following a lengthy delay, B. Clay Moore and Steven Griffin's Hawaiian Dick: The Last Resort mini-series will conclude on July 12.

"Hawaiian Dick: The Last Resort #4 is completely finished," said Eric Stephenson, Image Comics' executive director. "This series has been subject to numerous delays since it was first announced and we've received an unbelievable number of e-mails and phone calls about this book, so I'm truly pleased the last issue is finally done.

"And while it no way makes up for the lateness, this last issue is absolutely gorgeous. Steven has done a terrific job with this issue, bringing the whole series to a magnificent close. His approach to color work is nothing short of perfect -- there's a reason he's already received two Eisner nods for his work on this mini-series."

Moore said he is elated to have the series wrapped up.

"We've been making plans for future Hawaiian Dick projects for some time now, but obviously didn't want to announce anything until The Last Resort was finished," said Moore. "This gives us a great chance to reset and work toward delivering more Hawaiian Dick on a regular basis, on a regular schedule."

Hawaiian Dick: The Last Restor is the second mini-series chronicling the adventures of Byrd -- a down-on-his-luck American PI in 1950s Hawaii. The propety is being developed as a motion picture by New Line Cinema, with Frank Coraci attached to direct.

SUPER DELUXE HERO HAPPY HOUR FROM IDW PUBLISHING

IDW Publishing on Monday released a preview of Super Deluxe Hero Happy Hour: The Lost Episode, a 64-page one-shot by Dan Taylor and Chris Faison scheduled for August.

The Lost Episode makes available the long-lost story, "The Fall and Rise of Kingfish," re-mastered by Taylor and Fason.

Here's how IDW describes the book:

"All of The Hideout Bar & Grill regulars -- Guardian, Night Ranger, Scout, Psiren, Rusty the Bartender and the rest -- return to every herošs favorite watering hole where everyone knows your name, secret identity or not. Happy hour is interrupted when First City is attacked by the marauding Shadow-Soldiers from Dimension Z. Unfortunately this will be the last round for one of the heroes as one of their own loses their life in the line of duty and the group has to come to terms with the loss of a colleague.

"Super Deluxe Hero Happy Hour: The Lost Episode is jam-packed with a never-before-published story that has been enhanced with re-mastered and added scenes, as well as bonus material that includes interviews with the cast, outtakes and bloopers, deleted scenes, a 'Hero Happy Minute' featurette, and more."
