TUESDAY, JUNE 6, 2006COMING WEDNESDAYMarvel, DC and Image First Looks -- and much more!!!
Paolo Rivera, the artist of Marvel's Mythos line of one-shots that re-tell and modernize the origins of Marvel characters, told The Continuum he will follow up August's Mythos: Hulk with Mythos: Ghost Rider.
"I start on it in a couple of weeks," Rivera said. "I should be done with it in the fall and I'm hoping it will be out by the end of the year."
Rivera admitted he wasn't well-versed in Ghost Rider lore and that the choice of the character probably has something to do with Sony's Ghost Rider movie in February.
"But it's a guy who has a skull that's on fire and rides a motorcycle, that has to be among the most fun you can do," Rivera said.
"Plus, my dad does custom motorcycles, so I'll have plenty of reference."
Rivera, who teams with writer Paul Jenkins on the Mythos line, said he enjoys the "classic storytelling" elements of Mythos.
"I also like the format of one issue per character," he said.
Being a painted comic, Mythos is a time-consuming endeavor. Rivera said he hopes to have a new issue every three or four months.
And what character would he like to work on after Ghost Rider?
"Either Iron Man or Daredevil," Rivera said. "We'll probably keep Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four for the last two."

A dark tragedy one even Clarkšs powers canšt prevent strikes. These and more key elements of Superman lore fall into place."
A PRINCESS OF MARS VARIANTSIn addition to art of Ted McKeever, IDW Publishing's Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars mini-series will feature variant covers by Frank Cho and Mark Wheatley.
Cho will provide variants for the three issues, Wheatley the last two.
The mini-series, which launches in August, will be written by IDW editor Dan Taylor.
Here's how IDW describes the book:
"Representing the beginning of the very prolific career of legendary author Edgar Rice Burroughs, A Princess of Mars recounts the very first tale of pulp hero John Carter's adventures on the Red Planet. The five-issue series opens with Civil War veteran John Carter finding himself mysteriously and unexpectedly transported to the planet Mars, where he is forced to adapt to this strange and fantastic new world and all its dangerous alien beasts and warring Martian species. While trying to survive the perils of the Red Planet, Carter also tries to win the affections of a fellow captive of the Green Martians, Dejah Thoris -- a princess of Mars."
"A Princess of Mars, like most of Burroughs' literary classics, is a natural choice to adapt into a comic book series," Taylor said.
"The elements that Burroughs put into his stories lend themselves quite well to comicsimaginative tales filled with wondrous vision. Besides, I'm not one who can pass up on good, old-fashioned, swashbuckling science-fiction adventure."
