Superman Returns, Dark Horse for September -- and much more!!!

Brandon Routh makes Superman his own in Superman Returns.

But it's hard not to notice some elements of the previous film Superman, Christopher Reeve, in his performance.

And Routh accepts that as a compliment.

"Well, he is my Superman," Routh said Friday at the Superman Returns press junket in Los Angeles. "As I've said, when I read the script for the first time, I was envisioning him. That's how I envisioned Superman. There are definitely elements where I'm sure it looks a lot like him, and I'm probably channeling that energy, which is great, and I'm proud to be a part of that. Then there are other times where it's completely different. There's probably more old in my performance than new because there's almost 70 years of history in the character.

"Everybody who's watching it is seeing it with their own vision. They're seeing what they want to see. They're seeing as much of me as they want to see, and they're seeing as much of somebody else."

Kate Bosworth, who stars as Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman Returns, said she felt the weight of the responsibility of playing the character.

"Really, the icon notion of it is nerve-wracking, but what was most nerve-wracking for me was the investment and passion the fans have for this film," Bosworth said Friday during the Superman Returns press junket in Los Angeles.

"I just wanted to do my best and honor them and how they view the film."

Does Jimmy Olsen know Clark Kent is Superman? What was it like to see Brandon Routh in costume as the Man of Steel for the first time? Did Jimmy get drunk with Clark?

Those were some of the questions addressed to Sam Huntington, who plays Jimmy Olsen in the upcoming Superman Returns, at the film's press junket in Los Angeles on Friday.

Marvel Comics has provided The Continuum with a six-page preview of Beyond! #1.

The six-issue mini-series, by Dwayne McDuffie and Scott Kolins, launches on July 5.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"What happens when nine of Marvelšs most combustible heroes and villains, including the likes of Spider-Man and Venom, are whisked away to the deadly artificial planet Batttleworld? Do their best to keep from killing each other, of course!

"A being of immeasurable power has gathered nine super beings against their will for a purpose beyond their comprehension. Can this group of Spider-Man, Venom, Gravity, the Hood, Medusa, Hank Pym, the Wasp, Kraven and Firebird survive Battleworld and each other long enough to learn why they're there?

"See what happens when cult-favorites like Gravity and the Hood mix it up with superhero legends like Hank Pym and the Wasp. Watch royalty meet the jungle in Medusa and Kraven. And will Venom just kill them all?"

Image Comics has announced that the anthology book Afterworks 2 is expanding to almost double its original proportions, from the originally solicited 200 pages to 360 pages. The price will remain the same at $24.99.

"We knew we were going to have a big book and as the word got out, more and more folks asked if they could join; of course we said yeah and before we knew it we were at 360 pages," Ted Mathot said. "Through the creation of the book I met some awesome artists that I didn't know previously. There's already talk of new contributors and people returning for volume 3."

As a collection of some of the top talent in the animation industry working at Pixar Animation Studios, Afterworks 2 brings together an eclectic mix of artists and stories.

"Having worked in animation and comics for over 12 years now, Afterworks 2 has afforded me a rare chance to sort of combine those two worlds," Scott Morse said. "I finally get to see so many of my talented friends from the animation community produce some stories that are truly 'theirs,' work that is purely from their hearts. Every line is a mark of passion on the page for these people and readers are going to get a chance to experience some of the finest storytelling they've ever seen in comic book form. Afterworks 2 is all about a pure love of comics from every person involved."

Afterworks 2 will be in stores on July 19. - More Product. More Exclusives.
