Archie Comics on Monday announced a pair of Halloween-themed comic books for September: Sabrina the Teenage Witch #79 and Betty & Veronica #221.

Sabrina #79 ships on Sept. 13 and is by Tania del Rio.

Here's how Archie describes the issue:

"In 'Trick or Trick?' Sabrina is let in on a secret that will make this the best Halloween ever: Halloween is the one day that witches and wizards are allowed to freely use magic in the mortal realm! Of course, as with any privilege, there are rules that must be followed... is Sabrina up to the task of this new responsibility? She'll find out when she joins Llandra, Shinji, and Gwen at the local theme park's haunted house! But the tricks are on them, as they soon learn the exhibit really is haunted!"

Betty & Veronica #221 ships on Sept. 20 and is by George Gladir and Jeff Shultz.

Here's how Archie describes the issue:

"In 'The Big Prize,' from Veronica pulls out all the stops to make sure she is the center of attention on a day where there's a lot of competition! Veronica has entered herself in a Halloween costume contest judged by renowned luminaries from the fashion and entertainment worlds and you know what that means -- more costume changes than a diva in concert! Will Veronica's tenacity help her 'scare up' the prize?"

Both books will be 32 pages and will cost $2.25. Click on the thumbnails for larger looks at the covers.

* Thomas Haden Church, who is playing Sandman in Spider-Man 3, will be a guest on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday, June 21.

* Steve Melching has written two more episodes of The Batman animated series for next season. He also wrote two episodes of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

"I've been a Turtles fan since the original B&W comics back in the mid-1980s, so it was a treat to finally get to write for them," Melching told The Continuum. "I think it'll be a fun show."

* Ian Churchill is providing a flip cover to Image Comics' The Elephantmen #1, due in stores in August. Jose Ladronn is providing the front cover.

"Can it get any better than this?" said Richard Starkings, president of Active Images and the writer of the book. ģIan and I have been friends for years and as long-time fans of Hip Flask know, Ian has had a hand in the creation of the character since the very beginning.

"Ian finished this piece for us as a special favor and I couldn't be happier. It's the perfect complement to the interior art by Moritat and Henry Flint -- this will be one beautiful book!"

* Cinemax will be airing Batman Begins several times in August. Air dates and times include Saturday, Aug. 19 at 10 p.m.; Sunday, Aug. 20 at 4:50 a.m.; Monday, Aug. 21 at 12:15 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 10 p.m.; and Thursday, Aug. 31 at 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
