The Amazing Screw-On Head, an animated series based on Mike Mignola's Dark Horse comic book, is being targeted to begin on July 27 on Sci Fi Channel, The Continuum has learned.

The series will likely launch on the network's Pulse web site before going to television.

Sci Fi has yet to confirm the launch date.

Announced nearly a year ago, Amazing Screw-On Head is a half-hour comedy based on the exploits of one of history's great unsung heroes, voiced by Paul Giamatti. A secret agent working for the U.S. government, Screw-On Head is a robot that screws his head onto a wide variety of bodies, and battles those who threaten our civilization.

In the pilot, Screw-On Head faces off against his arch nemesis (and former manservant), Emperor Zombie, played by David Hyde Pierce.

Molly Shannon plays Screw's love interest, Patience the Vampire. Rounding out the cast are Patton Oswalt as Mr. Groin, Screw's faithful manservant, and Mindy Sterling, who plays the dual roles of zombie henchwoman Aggie and Geraldine.

The pilot was written by Bryan Fuller and directed by Chris Prynoski.

Above is the only-released concept art from the series.

With a possible trailer looming at month's end, production of Spider-Man 3 continued in New York this week.

Apparently as a gag, director Sam Raimi showed up in an admiral's suit on Thursday. Shooting involved both Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson.

As far as a Spider-Man trailer being attached with Superman Returns, a representative for the film said that it was "just a rumor" at this point.

Sony will have a Spider-Man 3 presentation at Comic-Con International in San Diego next month, although it is unclear if Raimi or any of the actors will be thre.

After Hours Press has announced an Aug. 9 launch for Impossible Tales, a new comic-book series that mixes sci-fi, adventure and mythology.

The book is written by Darren Sanchez and Hassan Godwin with art Michael Harris, colors by David Brame and covers by Juan Doe.

All Impossible Tales stories will be told in two-issue arcs.

Here's how After Hours Press describes the first story:

"A young genius from the future becomes a fugitive in time when he discovers the secret to time travel. In the race for his life he accidentally strands himself -- along with a luxury cruise ship and crew -- 65 million years back in time! Stuck on the lethal Cretaceous Ocean with his time device fried, our science hero must figure out how to get himself and the terrified crew of the Orca II, back home alive. Lost meets Jurassic Park in this adventure."

"If you liked Back to the Future, or Planet of the Apes, then you will love this book," said Sanchez, who is also publisher of After Hour Press. "It's serious and realistic sci-fi stuff told with a humorous feel. And the hero, Ray Wells, is a character that I could write dozens of stories around.

"The look of the book came out better than I could have hoped. The pencils are clean and sharp, and the colors have a Monet-like water color look that I've never seen before in a comic. It's impressive for new, unpublished artists to have done such a professional job. And it's a look that you've never seen before."
