Marvel news -- and much more!!!

Marvel Comics has announced a July 19 release for the Daily Bugle Civil War Newspaper Special, a 12-page, 50-cent edition.

Here's how Marvel describes the special:

"Heroes are battling heroes and the Daily Bugle is your only source for the in-depth coverage and exclusives you have come to expect from the metropolitan area's best paper. Plus, this edition also features a very special editorial by the heart and soul of the Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson.

Peter Parker, former Daily Bugle photographer, has been revealed to be the wall-crawling menace Spider-Man. Pick up this special edition for JJJ's response to unwittingly employing one of New York's most dangerous vigilantes."

The Daily Bugle Civil War Special features the art of Mike Mayhew and "articles" from J. Michael Straczynski, Peter David, Dan Slott and Zeb Wells.

Screenwriter Michael Dougherty, who reteamed with X2 partner Dan Harris and director Bryan Singer on Superman Returns, said it was "very tough" to leave the X-Men franchise.

"Not because it was a great opportunity to help finish the trilogy, but also because on a personal level we got to know that cast and crew really well," Dougherty said. "We felt like all of a sudden we had to tell them 'I'm being transferred to this other school called Superman. You guys have fun.'"

Dougherty said the writers had "certain ideas" for a third X-Men film. "That was a little tragic," he said.

He noted that some of the ideas they had actually did show up in X-Men: The Last Stand.

"I remember when Jean takes off Cyclops' visor," Dougherty said. "This was in a little e-mail that Dan sent me one day, 'Wouldn't it be cool if Jean came back as Phoenix and took off his visor, and was able to hold off his blast?' So it was eerie to see that on screen."

In other Superman Returns notes:

* Harris said there are ideas for a sequel. "But we need a giant vacation -- or at least a little vacation," he said. "It's been non-stop."

Without giving away a key turning point, Harris noted there are elements in Superman Returns that could turn the franchise in a certain direction for future installments.

* Burger King's promotion with the film has begun. Eight different toys are being offered.

* Kate Bosworth, who plays Lois Lane, will be a guest on NBC's Today Show and the syndicated Live! with Regis and Kelly on Wednesday.

* Access Hollywood will feature Bosworth, Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey together on Tuesday.

Silent Devil is releasing Antigone, a 32-page black and white one-shot by writer David Hopkins and artist Tom Kurzanski, in October. It is the same creative team of Viper Comics' Karma Incorporated.

Antigone is based on Sophocles' play of the same name. In the story, Antigone stands against King Creon for the right to bury her dead brother. This new version of the Oedipus trilogy is a Goth fantasy, mixing ancient and modern -- a dark, twisted, and distorted perspective, playfully obscure.

"My previous works, Karma Incorporated and Emily Edison, all dealt with the same theme of dysfunctional families," Hopkins said. "Antigone would be the epitome of this subject matter. I'm really interested in the 'house drama' as the starting point for all my stories."

Antigone will feature an epilogue by Aaron Thomas Nelson, an expert on Ancient Greek Literature.

The 32-page, black-and-white book will cost $2.95.
