Marv Wolfman is the new writer of Nightwing with #125, DC Comics' Dan DiDio announced Friday at the DC Nation panel at Heroes Con.

DiDio broke the panel's biggest news during the "lightning round" of questions. It was later learned that Dan Jurgens will be drawing an arc.

Showcased in his own panel at Heroes Con on Friday, Warren Ellis said he should know the fate of his television pilot with AMC by the end of August.

"I was contracted for a pilot script and if they like it, then they'll go to pre-production," Ellis said.

Superman Returns pulled in an estimated $16.8 million at the box office on Friday, pushing its total to $48.8 million.

The film, which opened on Wednesday, nearly doubled the debut of The Devil Wars Prada, which brought in $9.7 million.

X-Men: The Last Stand brought in $0.6 million on Friday, pushing its total to $227.1 million.

In other Superman Returns news:

* The film dominated NBC's talk-show lineup on Friday night, with Brandon Routh appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Kate Bosworth appearing on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Routh said he was a little overwhelmed at first with all the attention. "But then you think, 'Gosh, I'm gonna be Sperman, and it's all encompassing," he said.

Bosworth said the airplane sequence was the "most uncomfortable" scene she's ever filmed, being tossed around the set.

* Kids' WB! will stage "Behind the Shield," looking at Superman, on Saturday, July 15. The event will also include a first look at the Legion of Super Heroes animated series, which will is now calling the character "Superman" instead of "Superboy."

Spike TV has released an offical logline for "Death Goes On," this Wednesday's episode of Blade: The Series.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"When Marcus keeps Krista from leaving the House of Chthon, she is forced to make her way out without the help of Blade of Shen. With Krista unavailable to him, Blade seeks proof of Marcus' vaccine through Revered Carlyle, a link to the Asher Community. Marcus explains the rules of all the houses to Krista."

In other Blade notes:

* Ryan Kennedy is playing a character called Cain, and Claude Duhamel is playing an "asher."

* "The Evil Within" will be the Wednesday, July 26 episode.

* Smallville star Tom Welling, a big Boston Red Sox fan, threw out the first pitch at Thursday's Red Sox-New York Mets game at Fenway Park.

Production on Season 6 of Smallville is expected to begin in about three weeks in Vancouver.

"Reckoning" will be the Thursday, July 13 episode.

* The WB will air the pilot episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel as part of its final night of programming on Sunday, Sept. 17.

* Activision has provided The Continuum with eight new screenshots from its upcoming Marvel: Ultimate Alliance game.
