SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 2006WIZARD CHICAGO: MONDO MARVEL PANELROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Marvel Mondo panel at Wizard World Chicago crossed a variety of subjects. Following are highlights:
Following are highlights:
* Editor Mark Paniccia said that Planet Hulk will be collected into a hardcover after the story's completion.
* As Jeph Loeb began to describe Onslaught Reborn -- which launches in November -- artist Rob Liefeld joined the panel, bringing an Onslaught action figure.
Loeb said the story is about a father trying to find his son.
* Fantastic Four: The End, by Alan Davis, is a six-issue mini-series that launches in November. Editor Tom Brevoort said that by the third page of the first issue the team separates and readers will discover how the foursome gets back together for the last time.
* Pages from Salvador Larocca's new mini-series Newuniversal were shown. "It's a whole new style for Salvador," Quesada said. "He told me he was going to reinvent himself for this series, and I think he's managed to do it."
* Paniccia said that a character from the Agents of Atlas "will become a lot more special" in the Marvel Universe in several months.
* Brevoort said the new Blade series will have horror elements, but will be set firmly within the Marvel Universe. Stories will invovle a vampiric infestation on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Heli-Carrier and Blade taking on a mission for Doctor Doom.
* What If? returns beginning in November with one-shots focusing on recent big events in the Marvel Universe.
Books will include What If? Avengers Disassembled by Jeff Parker and Aaron Lopresti; What If? Spider-Man: The Other by Peter David and Koi Pham; What If? Enemy of the State by Jimmie Robinson and Carmine Di Giandomenico; What If? Age of Apocalypse by Rick Remender and Dave Wilkins; and What If? Deadly Genesis by David Hine and David Yardin.
David said the Spidey story if what if his rebirth "went terribly wrong," adding that it involves an alien symbiote. And he said, seriously, that Aunt May will go toe-to-toe with a symbiote.
* X-23: Target X launches in November as a six-issue mini-series. It is drawn by Top Cow's Mike Choi and is written by Chris Yost and Craig Kyle.
* White Tiger -- by Tamora Pierce and Phillipe Brinoes -- launches in November.
* Art from Kaare Andrews' Spider-Man: Reign was shown. "It's Spider-Man in the future, but not 2099," Quesada said.
* Pablo Raimondi is the new artist of X-Factor beginning with #13. The issue will be "Reexaminations," a sequel of sorts to the most popular issue of David's first go-round with X-Factor, which was drawn by Joe Quesada. David tried to coax Quesada into doing a variant cover for the issue, but Quesada said it depended on his schedule.
* Demons of Mercy is a six-issue mini-series based on the upcoming Maxim Games title.
* Andrew Currie jones David on Wonder Man: My Fair Super Villain, a five-issue mini-series that starts in December. A riff on My Fair Lady, the book has Wonder Man trying to reform a super villain called Ladykiller. Look for appearances by Hank McCoy and Carol Danvers.
* Paniccia said that the eight-issue X-Men: First Class will feature "really touching stories."
* Keith Giffen said that Annihilation will alter the cosmic portion of the Marvel Universe. "If you leave Earth, you are going to find a different structure and you better have allies," he said. "And knowing a Skrull won't do you any good."
* Quesada said David Mack has "a pitch in the pipeline," but had nothing to announce.
* Michael Turner's Marvel project will be announced on Saturday.
* Loeb said his Spider-Man project with J. Scott Campbell is "well underway," but couldn't say when or where the stories will appear.
* A sequel to Marvel Zombies? "We're working on something," Quesada said.
* Quesada said there are no plans with Marvel and Neil Gaiman after Eternals concludes. "We're launching Thor, but it won't be with Neil," he said, responding to a rumor.
* Civil War Front Line writer on the tribulations of Speedball: "You haven't seen nothing yet."
* Brevoort said he would be open to working with Dwayne McDuffie again after Beyond!.
* David said he's taking a different tact on 1602: Fantastik Four. He called it a "high seas adventure," in which Doctor Doom kidnaps William Shakespeare to chronicle his quest to find a cure for his disfigured face -- with the FF in pursuit. David note the book's Madame Medusa will have snakes for hair.
* Rob Liefeld said he's got three potential projects for Marvel after Onslaught Reborn but hasn't decided on one.
* Doctor Strange: The Oath will set up the character to be involved with a Marvel team.
* Echo will show up next in New Avengers #27.
* The Mighty Avengers will be either a January or February launch, Brevoort said.
