Wizard World Chicago news -- and more!!!

HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY

Universal Pictures on Friday night formally announced the Hellboy sequel as Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, the film will begin principal photography in April in Budapest and London, with pre- and post-production based in London. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, a Lawrence Gordon/Lloyd Levin production in association with Dark Horse Entertainment, will be released worldwide in the summer of 2008.

"All of us at Universal are delighted to be part of the continuing adventures of Hellboy and his universe, as there are few properties which offer this unique blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle," said Marc Shmuger, Universal Pictures chairman, and David Linde, co-chairman, said in a joint statment.

"We are incredibly excited by the potential of this film and even more so to be working with Guillermo del Toro, whose vision for this film has ignited the fanboy imagination in all of us."

Universal also confirmed that Ron Perlman will be returning as Hellboy and Selma Blair will be back as Liz Sherman.

Del Toro wrote the screenplay for Hellboy 2 from a story by del Toro and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. The sequel will be produced by Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Mike Richardson. Chris Kenny is the executive producer, with Mignola serving as co-producer.
