COMING MONDAY

Animation news -- and much more!!!

HELLBOY ANIMATED UPDATE

At a panel at the recent Comic-Con International, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola said he hopes to have variety with the upcoming Hellboy animated films.

"If, heaven forbid, we have to do a string of these films, each one of them has a unique-to-itself, separate identity," Mignola said. "Let's do one of these and one of these. Let's do a Sherlock Holmes thing. Let's do a fairy tale thing. So that they're all distinct and different."

Sword of Stones, the first film scheduled to air on Cartoon Network on Oct. 28 and be released on DVD on Feb. 6, involves Japanese folklore.

"I said that we should just lose Hellboy into his Japanese folklore world so that this thing just reeks Japan," Mignola said. "And the next film will be a completely different thing."

Supervising producer/director Tad Stones agreed the second film is an entirely different movie.

"It has vampires and haunted houses, and it has much more emotion to it," Stones said. "You see Broom as a young man and an old man."

The second film will be called Hellboy: Blood and Iron.

Stones said a potential third film already has been talked through and will feature "an entirely different genre."

HASBRO'S SPIDER-MAN ORIGINS
