ION'S KALMAN ANDRASOFSZKY

TORONTO -- Readers who like consistency in their creative team -- even the cover artists -- will be happy to know that Kalman Andrasofszky is on board for all 12 issues of DC Comics' Ion series.

"I'm working on #9 now and will be doing all of them," he said at the recent Canadian Fan Expo.

Andrasofszky, who lives in Toronto, secured the Ion gig at the previous year's Toronto show with editor Eddie Berganza, for whom he also provided covers for Action Comics and Outsiders.

Andrasofszky said he liked Kyle Rayner, partially because he was an underdog character who met resistance when he became Green Lantern.

"Plus, he's an artist, so that created a certain amount of sympathy," he said.

Ion is written by Ron Marz with art Greg Tocchini and Jay Leisten. In #9 in November, Kyle visits a remote world of barbaric splendor, intending to make amends for the destruction they believe he caused.

Andrasofszky said it takes him 3 to 3 1/2 days for a cover, nothing that he draws and colors them. "You get to lavish more attention on a cover," he said. "In some ways, there's a sense or priority, too, because it's the first thing people look at."

The artist has done sequential work before, most notably Vertigo's iCandy series in 2003. He said he's interested in doing interiors again and is looking for the right project.

Andrasofszky has done spot illustrations for Dungeons and Dragon books, does commercial illustrations and is working on a new game. "I can't get you any details on that yet," he said.
