TEEN TITANS: TROUBLE IN TOKYO

Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo, the characters' first animated movie, will debut on Cartoon Network on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with a repeat on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The film, which had been previously screened at conventions in San Diego and Los Angeles, will be released on DVD as well. Warner Home Video has not announced an official date yet, but it is expected to be sometime this fall.

The movie is written by David Slack, who was the series' producer. He handed off story-editing of the show for the fifth season to concentrate on the movie.

"Obviously, if you're going to have it take place in Japan, there's a lot of Japanese things that you need to see," Slack said.

Robin's at the center of the film, in more ways than one.

"Without giving anything away, there's a little bit of romance between two of our lead characters," Slack said.

Producer Glen Murakami said his intention was more than to make a longer episode of the series.

"We tried to make it feel different from the rest of the show," Murakami said. "We wanted to make it feel like a movie."

The film's music is by Dynamic Music Partners' Kristopher Carter, Michael McCuistion and Lolita Ritmanis, who also worked on the entire series. The versatility they displayed in the series is continued in the film, for which the music was done by a live orchestra.

"These three have taught me a lot during Titans," Murakami said. "There were times on Titans I was ripping my hair out, thinking, 'This is never going to work,' but after the music was done, 'Oh, thank God.'"
