Animation news -- and much more!!!

OCCULT CRIMES TASKFORCE -- THE MOVIE

Occult Crimes Taskforce -- the Image Comics series by actress Rosario Dawson, David Atchison and Tony Shasteen -- has been optioned as a movie by Dimension Films.

Dawson, whose likeness is featured in the comic, will star and produce, with Atchison and Shasteen as co-producers. Ford Lytle Gilmore is executive producing.

"I'm excited to develop and produce a film that comes from a comic book where the protagonist is based on the likeness of a real person," Dawson said in a release. "I have loved comic books since I was a child and I am thrilled to have created a project that joins my love for films as well. Dimension is the perfect partner in this endeavor, as they truly understand the creation and marketing of this genre. I have worked with them in many projects over the years and they have always been fantastic partners."

Atchison told The Continuum he feels the book will translate well to film.

"The concept provides us with a great oppurtunity to do some really amazing things in a film," he said. "We're all really excited and want to translate the energy and momentum we've put into the comic book into this new iteration of the Occult Crimes Taskforce."

Atchison said talks for the film happened at Comic-Con International. "We knew with Rosario's involvement there would be a strong possibility," he said.

Neither a director nor writer has been attached yet, and it's too early to predict when the film might be realized.

"We're all happy with the developments," Atchison said. "As a creative team, our goal has always been to channel the positive energy we've received thus far back into the product."
