COMING FRIDAY

Animation news -- and much more!!!

LEGION OF SUPER HEROES' "TIMBER WOLF"

"Timber Wolf," a new episode of Kids' WB!'s Legion of Super Heroes animated series, is scheduled to premiere on Saturday.

The episode is one of two Legion scripts from Matt Wayne, who was a story editor and writer for Justice League Unlimited.

"We finally get to meet Timber Wolf, who's not exactly what comics readers would expect and not necessarily on the Legion's side," Wayne told The Continuum.

"Timber Wolf and Saturn Girl don't hit it off at first. In fact, it's a classic beauty-and-the-beast situation, except this time beauty can kick butt."

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"A mysterious scientist asks the Legion to help capture a dangerous creature. They succeed, only to discover the creature is nowhere near as dangerous as the scientist himself."

SUPERMAN RETURNS AN IMAX HIT

Superman Returns, which has grossed more than $388 million worldwide, continues to show legs in IMAX theaters through its 13th week of release.

According to IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures, the IMAX 3D release of Superman Returns has earned $22.7 million on 92 IMAX screens domestically and more than $7.5 million on 36 IMAX screens internationally.

"We are very pleased with the longevity of the film's performance in IMAX theatres," said Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures. "The immersive IMAX Experience has helped this terrific film continue to draw crowds 13 weeks into its run."

"Superman Returns has been a huge hit in IMAX theatres throughout the entire summer," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "The strong legs provide a clear indication that audiences want to experience Hollywood event movies in the most powerful and unique way. We are encouraged by the ongoing positive reactions to the world's first live-action Hollywood feature with scenes converted into IMAX 3D."

IMAX theatres from New York to San Francisco are reporting strong results and high occupancy, with New York City's IMAX at AMC Loews Lincoln Square 12 and IMAX at AMC Loews Metreon 15 in San Francisco topping the North American list.
