HELLBOY ANIMATED ROUNDUP

Inkworks has announced sketch cards by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and character designer Sean "Cheeks" Galloway for its upcoming Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms trading card set.

Based on the movie that will premiere on Cartoon Network on Saturday, Oct. 28, the set, which includes 72 base cards, will be in stores in January, just before the film's Feb. 6 DVD release.

Mignola and Galloway are providing hand-drawn sketches to being included in the cards that will be in inserted at a rate of one per box (approximately 1:36 packs). According to Inkworks, additional artists and other bonus cards will be announced.

In other Hellboy animated news:

* Supervising producer/director Tad Stones noted on his blog that Sword of Storms has been completed.

* Stones said that a lot of exposition wasn't need for the animated film.

"The nice thing about the animation is because since the movie's out there, we just jump right in," he said. "You can pretty quickly figure out that the big red guy is the hero and he's seemingly a good guy."

* Mignola said that the animated, movie and comic-book universes of Hellboy are all distinct. "But the Ron Perlman movie Hellboy is pretty much the same Hellboy I do in the comic, and the same with animation," he said.
