HELLBOY: SWORD OF STORMSHellboy: Sword of Storms, the animated movie that premieres on Cartoon Network on Saturday, actually has its roots in the live-action franchise.
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola said live-action director Guillermo del Toro originally thought of putting Hellboy in Japan for the sequel.
"I came up with some ideas and he had some ideas," Mignola said. "And then we went off in a different direction for Hellboy 2.
"So when Tad (Stones, supervising producer/director of Sword of Storms) approached me about this, I said, 'Let's do Japan.' I've only done a smidgen of Japan in the comic. There's such a wealth of Japanese folkfore and mythology, so let's use that. It will be such a distinctly different picture than the movies and anything that's been in the comics. So it's not just another, 'Oh, it's another one these.'"
"The Japanese story is kind of an Alice in Wonderland, where he goes through these adventures in this legendary world, while there's other stuff going on on Earth," Stones said.

SMALLVILLE: "STATIC"The CW has released a description of "Static," the Thursday, Nov. 16 episode of Smallville.
Here's how the network describes the episode:
"Clark (Tom Welling) learns a Zoner has landed in Seattle and slaughtered the entire crew of a working ship. Upon investigation, Clark comes face to face with a horrifying Phantom (guest star Batista) who sucks the bones out of people. Meanwhile, a patient (guest star Elias Toufexis) with the ability to morph into different frequencies escapes from LuthorCorps' secret experimental lab and seeks revenge on Lex by imprisoning him in another spatial period where he can see and hear everyone but no one can see him."
The episode was written by James Morris and Shintaro Shimosawa and directed by James Conway.
In other Smallville news, the show hit season highs in ratings on Thursday despite competition from Game 4 of the World Series on Fox.
The "Reunion" episode (from which the image above comes) had season highs in men 18-34 and men 18-49 and matched its season best in adults 18-34 and 18-49. Compared to the previous week, Smallville climbed 4 percent in adults 18-34, 10 percent in adults 18-49, 15 percent in men 18-34 and 19 percent in men 18-49.
