SUPERMAN RETURNS VIDEO GAME

Superman video games and games based on movies don't have the greatest track records, but the executive producer of the Superman Returns game coming Nov. 20 from Electronic Games is confident it will succeed with gamers.

"I'm really happy with it," Chris Gray said during The Continuum's recent visit to EA Tiburon in Orlando, Fla. "It's a fun game."

The game was originally scheduled to coincide with the movie last summer, but was delayed.

"The simple answer is it's a big complicated game and we needed more time to finish it," Gray said, noting that, at its production peak, more than 100 people were working on it.

A common theme among the creators was that the game "wasn't simply playing the movie." While based on Superman Returns and featuring actors from the film, the open-world game expands on the movie to include such villains as Metallo, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Mongul and Bizarro and even newly created foes.

The game's story was from Marv Wolfman, the veteran comics writer who also wrote the Superman Returns novelization, and Flint Dillie, a longtime game writer.

Superman can't die in the game; the objective is to save Metropolis, which has its own health meter and serves as a character element.

"Superman is a bit of a morality tale," said Jeff Peters, supervising producer. "He has all the powers in the universe, but you have to ask, 'How do I use them?'"

"We worked hard on the idea that Superman has a lot of different powers and mastering them is a big challenge of the game," Gray added.

The creators worked with DC Comics to create a map of Metropolis. "DC would give their blessing and we made an 80 square mile city with unique districts," Peters said.

THE SIMPSONS: "ICE CREAM OF MARGIE (WITH THE LIGHT BLUE HAIR)"

"Ice Cream of Margie (With The Light Blue Hair)," a new episode of The Simpsons, will air on Fox on Sunday, Nov. 26.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"After Homer gets fired at the nuclear power plant, he takes over the ice cream truck business, while a depressed Marge creates popsicle stick sculptures to keep busy. The sculptures quickly become popular and Marge is excited to have a purpose in life, until a turn of events divides the Simpsons household."
