WIZARD WORLD TEXAS: ASPEN COMICS PANEL

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Aspen Comics kicked off the panels at Wizard World Texas on Friday afternoon, with Michael Turner, Frank Mastromauro, Peter Steigerwald and Micah Gunnell in attendance.

Following are highlights:

* Mastromauro said that Aspen is contracting by NBC to provide Heroes webisodes for beyond the first season. "We've signed on for a couple of years," he said. "It the show keeps going well, we'll keep doing the webisdoes."

* Turner said he has returned to work on Soulfire #8 following his back surgery, but it is difficult for him to sit for long periods.

"I will be done before I start on (Ultimate) Wolverine," he said. "Eight, nine and 10 are so crazy, I'm having a blast."

* Francisco Herrera is squeezing in pages of the next Soulfire mini-series in between his work on a European graphic novel. Mastromauro said it will launch either next spring of summer.

* The Soulfire: Dying of the Light trade paperback should be out in the next four weeks, with a new cover by Gunnell. "Everything Micah ever drew for this book will be in the trade paperback," Mastromauro said.

* Shrugged #4 will have four covers, on each by Turner, Gunnell, Marcus To and Koi Turbull, that fit to form one image. Beth Sotero colored.

* Aspen's presentation also included the covers to Shrugged #4 and #5, which are shown above.

* The Fathom: Kiani mini-series, written by Vince Hernandez with art by To, should launch in early spring. "Vince turned in the script to #1," Mastromauro said, "and he knows the Fathom universe so well that he's pulled in all these great things."

* Turner said Ekos will be his next project after Ultimate Wolverine, possibly as early as the first quarter of 2008. "I'm still working with Geoff Johns on the story," he said. "We're working on it almost weekly, and the story is really coming together."

* Mastromauro called Turner's cover to Civil War #7 his "craziest cover ever." Due to story elements, the cover couldn't be shown, however.

* The cover to Black Panther #25 was shown, however, and it features Thor vs. Storm. Turner is covering Black Panther #23-25, which is being drawn by Turnbull.

* Mastromauro said that the Kiani statue is on track and should be available in late January/early February.

* Turner said he's enjoyed work with Marvel and DC, and in addition to Wolverine, has several more covers to do for Marvel as well as Justice League of America covers for DC.

"There's a whole history you have to respect," he said, noting that when he was growing up he didn't read Marvel or DC comics.

* Turner said Ultimate Wolverine will be six issues. "We're also working on a zero or preview issue to whet people's appetites," he said.

* Turner said he's working on a creative team for the second volume of Soulfire.

* Turner said he's been thinking of possibly doing some crossovers with the Aspen characters. "We wanted to make sure all the worlds had been developed," he said. "It might be possible for crossovers with companies other than our own."
