MICHAEL SILBERKLEIT TALKS NEW ARCHIE STYLE

Michael Silberkleit, chairman and co-publisher of Archie Comics, told The Continuum the upcoming change in appearance of the Archie characters for a May-launching story could be an ongoing venture.

"That will depend on the fans. If the fans respond well, we may do more stories," Silberkleit told The Continuum.

Early reports on the change last weekend confused some readers, who thought it was a permanent and line-wide. Silberkleit stressed that wasn't the case.

"It's not a line-wide change," he said. "We are just exploring different ways to present our characters.

"We are talking about a four-part story, only 100 pages. So we are optimistic. Only time will tell what the actual reaction is, but we are not worried. Remember the classic Archie will be in the thousands of pages we produce each year."

Featuring designs by Steven Butler and a more realistic style, the style is part of a new "Dynamic" line, to go with Archie's manga and adventure titles.

The new look -- with the tagline "As you have never seen them before!" -- debuts in a four-part adventure starting in Betty & Veronica Double Digest #151 in May. Another four-part story, told in the same style, will appear in Pals 'N Gals Double Digest.

JOHN CASSADAY COVERS VIRGIN'S GAMEKEEPER

Virgin Comics announced on Wednesday that John Cassaday will illustrate alternate covers for Gamekeeper, a new series created by movie director Guy Ritchie.

"I've been a fan of Guy Ritchie's work for a long time," Cassaday said. "Inventive and cleverly stylish, he's one of my favorite filmmakers. I jumped at the chance to take part... I'm a fan of Guy's. I loved Snatch. This is sounding strange, isn't it?"

Gamekeeper will be written by Andy Diggle, with art by Mukesh Singh.

Here's how Virgin describes the book:

"Gamekeeper is the story of Brock, a man with a dark past who is content as the gamekeeper of a sprawling English country estate. He quietly tends to a world where natural law presides and mankind comes only if invited. But when armed killers invade his sanctuary in search of the truth, they get more than they bargained for - and Brock finds himself forced to hunt a prey more cunning and lethal than anything in the wild."
