PHOENIX CACTUS COMICON: SMALLVILLE DVD INTERVIEWS

Several Phoenix-area comic-books fans on Saturday might have secured themselves a place on the Season 6 DVD for Smallville.

Working in conjunction with Warner Home Video, Retrofit Films interviewed many attendees of the Phoenix Cactus Comicon on camera about Smallville for possibile use on the next DVD collection.

"It went really, really well," Retrofit's Tanner Kling said as he and an associate picked up their gear, which include banners of Smallville stars Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum, after a day of filming.

"We got a lot of interesting fans, from the die-hard fans to people's spouses who got turned on to the show."

Those interviewed filled out release forms after they finished. The interviews drew some surprises, such as Stephen Carabello and April Spinelli, who were dressed up as the X-Men's Cyclops and Marvel Girl.

"We're big fans of the show," Spinelli said. "It was fun."

Even Noel Neill, who played Lois Lane in the 1950s Superman television series and more recently played Gertrude Vanderworth in Superman Returns, took a turn.

"She pointed out how cyclical Superman has been through the years," Kling said.

Also interviewed was Phil Hester, one-time artist of Green Arrow, who has been a frequent guest-star in Season 6.

Kling said he was surprised at the fans' depth of insight in their comments. "The things that they take from the show I wouldn't have thought of," he said.

Kling said it's possible there will be one more day of interviews at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention on Feb. 11. Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar will be attending the convention.

PHOENIX CACTUS COMICON: ROB LIEFELD

Appearing at the Phoenix Cactus Comicon on Saturday, Rob Liefeld provided The Continuum with an update on Onslaught Reborn.

The five-issue mini-series, in which Liefeld is teaming with writer Jeph Loeb, has recently slipped behind schedule.

"I'm done with three issues," Liefeld told The Continuum. "I've done everything I can do.

"I love working on Onslaught. It's great fun. And I love working with Jeph. I look forward to working on the fourth issue."

Liefeld wouldn't speculate about the future shipping of the Onslaught Reborn.

"I draw every issue in the same amount of time," he said.

Liefeld also said he is still getting feelers from Hollywood on his properties -- even very recently.

"One of them has always had more momentum than any of the others," he said. "It never seems to die.

"It's like I tell my wife: 'Even if I have to go down the red carpet in a walker, there will be some movies. I look at Stan Lee as inspiration. It took a long time for Spider-Man to be made into a movie. And he's doing pretty well with them these days."
