FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER'S BRIAN POSEHN

SAN FRANCISCO -- That priest certainly does look familiar, doesn't he?

You know, the guy marrying Reed and Sue in the teaser for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer?

Why, it's none other than comedian and comics-lover Brian Poshen. The FF movies have always maintained fun casting choices, and Poshen's addition certainly fits in.

"I actually didn't have to audition for it," Posehn told The Continuum at last weekend's Wonder Con, where he was promoting his The Last Christmas from Image Comics. "Tim Story (the director) must have been a fan -- or I was the third or fourth comedian on their list."

Posehn said he was on the East Coast when alerted of the role and had only two days notice to go to Vancouver, where the Fantastic Four sequel was being filmed. "I couldn't have been more psyched," he said.

While he can't reveal any specifics, Posehn said his character appears in two scenes.

"I went up there three times, and I was on the set for six days total for two scenes," he said.

Posehn said the scene set-ups were very time-consuming compared to a lot of the lower-budgeted productions he has worked on. He was also very impressed with the use of animatics in the production.

"To be part of a big summer movie, and one set in the Marvel Universe, is just one of the coolest things," he said.

Posehn said he enjoyed working with the FF cast and crew.

"Michael Chiklis is a big comedy fan," Posehn said. "He was familiar with my stuff and saw my documentary Comedians of Comedy. He was one of the coolest guys, although it was wild speaking to him when he was dressed up like The Thing."

Just before Christmas, Fox released the first teaser for the film, and there was Posehn, standing prominently between Ioan Gruffudd's Reed Richards and Jessica Alba's Sue Storm.

"That was totally unexpected," Posehn said. "I didn't even know about it until a couple of people sent me some e-mails. Another surprise, for sure."

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is scheduled to be in theaters on June 16.
