SPIDER-MAN 3'S VENOM

Scott Stokdyk, special effects supervisor for Sony Pictures Imageworks on Spider-Man 3, said that Venom is presented in distinct stages in the film.

First is the initial transformation in a recreation of the bell tower scene from the comics, in which Eddie Brock's skin is pulled away from his body and tendrils of goo cross his face until they completely envelop him.

"As he gets angrier, he turns into more of a monster, more of a beast," Stokdyk said.

Initially, Brock, played by Topher Grace, becomes a kind of double for Spider-Man.

By the very end of the film, he becomes an entirely CG character -- the classic Venom from the comic books, with a menacing, unhinged jaw and full mouth of very sharp teeth.

"Everything is alive on 'comic-book' Venom,'" Stokdyk said. "The challenge was to make a character that was monstrous, very detailed, very kinetic -- but not delicate. Despite all the detail, he's still menacing."

SMALLVILLE: "PROTOTYPE"

The CW has released a description of "Prototype," the Thursday, May 10 episode of Smallville.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) has been secretly trying to turn Wes Keenan (guest star Tahmoh Penikett), a military man who supposedly died fighting in Afghanistan, into a 'super soldier' by injecting him with DNA pulled from the various meteor freaks he has captured. After a crooked senator (guest star Alan C. Peterson) threatens to expose his secret labs, Lex dispatches Wes to kill the senator, but Lois (Erica Durance) witnesses the attack and inadvertently becomes the super soldier's next target.

"Meanwhile, Clark (Tom Welling) tries to convince Lana (Kristin Kreuk) to leave Lex."

The episode was written by Steven S. DeKnight and directed by Mat Beck.
