WIZARD WORLD PHILADELPHIA: DCU PANEL

PHILADELPHIA -- DC Comics on Saturday announced Dwayne McDuffie as the new writer of Justice League of America at its DC Universe panel at Wizard World Philadelphia on Saturday.

"Dwayne's going to start out really strong and we're keeping Ed Benes on art," editor Eddie Berganza said, noting that Joe Benitez is helping on #13.

Bob Wayne led the panel, was joined by Mike Carlin, Dustin Nguyen, Berganza, Jeanine Schaefer, Jimmy Palmiotti and Shane Davis.

* Green Arrow/Black Canary Wedding Special, written by Judd Winick with art and cover by Amanda Conner. Conner is inking her own pencils.

"This wedding has been a long time coming and you will not believe the end of this issue," Carlin said. There will also be a JLA Wedding Special and a JLa

* Talent Caldwell is providing covers for Countdown. Kyle Rayner is joining the Challengers, and Mary Marvel will be tangling over Eclipso.

* Countdown to Adventure will feature Forerunner. "We'll deal with who she is and what she has to do with the Monitors," Berganza said.

* Countdown to Mystery will feature Dr. Fate and Eclipso.

* Amazons Attack #4 will feature Catwoman.

* Wonder Girl gets a six-issue mini-series starting in September, from writer J. Torres and artist Sanford Greene.

* Infinity Inc. launches in September from writer Peter Milligan.

* Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters will return in September. Dave Johnson provides the cover for #1.

The series will be written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, with art by Renato Arlem.

"Everything going on in Countdown will affect Freedom Fights," Palmiotti said. "we're gong to flush out the team a little more than we did in the first series. We're doing to dig into Phantom Lady in ways that you're not going to expect.

Walter Simonson is drawing Superman #666.

The Metal Men return in August in a mini-series by Duncan Rouleau. "We've tweaked the design," Berganza said. "There's a litlte more polish.

"And it's going to cover a lot of their history. So if you haven't read Metal Men before, you can jump on."

* Artist Dustin Nguyen said his Superman/Batman story will include a lot of the Fourth World series. Berganza added the story will include Scarecrow and Killer Croc and will tie into Countdown.

* Michael Green and Shane Davis are teaming up on a "hunt for Kryptonite" story in Superman/Batman, dove-tailing off a previous story for Jeph Loeb.

"I'm so excited I get to draw so many key characters in the DC Universe," said Davis, who has signed an exclusive with DC.

* Nightwing #136 in September has Nightwing being set up. Ryan Sook provides the cover.

* JLA/Hitman, by Garth Ennis and John McCrea, will be two issues.

* Jonah Hex writer Jimmy Palmiotti said that J.H. Williams drew an "issue that is so insane." Jordi Bernet is drawing three more issues of the title.

* The third collection of Justice will be in October.

* Sean McKeever's first issue of Teen Titans will be #50, with new artist Ale Garza. The cover features the new lineup.

"The first story will tie up some stuff from Justice League," Berganza said.

* All Flash #1 in September will be written by Mark Waid, followed by Flash #231 in October. Daniel Acuna is the artist.

* The Milestone characters are not part of the 52 worlds, nor are the Archie/Impact characters.

* Berganza said there will be new colors of Kryptonite in Superman/Batman.

* The Question will be getting a mini-series. A trade paperback collecting Dennis O'Neil/Denys Cowan Question stories is scheduled for October.

* David Michael Beck is drawing the Halloween issue of Jonah Hex, as Hex, El Diablo and Bat Lash take on a witch. "It's the craziest issue we've done," Palmiotti said.

* Berganza said JLA #11 spotlights Red Arrow and Vixen in a "real-life setting."

* Wayne said that Rip Hunter will be showing up, according to writer Geoff Johns.

* There will be collected editions of Batman Confidential and Superman Confidential.
