FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER TOPS BOX OFFICE

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver topped the box office on its opening day Friday with an estimated $22.8 million.

Despite early projections by Variety, the film now figures to challenge the $56.0 million opening of Fantastic Four in 2005.

The first Fantastic Four movie opened to $21.2 million on July 8, 2005.

Fantastic Four will become the fifth comics-based movie to top the box office this year, following Ghost Rider, 300, TMNT and Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man 3 placed 10th on Friday with $0.7 million, pushing its total to $328.2 million.

WIZARD WORLD PHILADELPHIA: DC COMICS' WORLD FINEST PANEL

Although there's no longer a World's Finest comic -- that's really Superman/Batman -- it still suited the title of DC Comics' Wizard World panel on Friday for its top two characters.

The panel -- which included Bob Wayne, Mike Carlin, Dustin Nguyen, Eddie Berganza and Adam Schlagman -- was more free-wheeling than most of DC's other sessions during the weekend, but managed to produce a few news nuggets.
