FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER TOPS BOX OFFICE

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer easily topped the box office over the weekend, pulling in an estimated $57.4 million.

The film beat the $56 million opening of the first Fantastic Four movie and topped weekend runner-up Ocean's Thirteen's $19.1 million.

"I was very happy with the box office, and I thought the film turned out to be a fun, crowd-pleasing family adventure film," screenwriter Don Payne told The Continuum on Sunday.

"I saw it on Friday in a theater filled with young kids and their parents, teens, as well as the genre fans and regular, mainstream movie-goers, and everyone was really into it. I think it's great that I can take my 5- and 8-year-old sons, my tween-age niece, my teenage nephews, my wife, and my mom to a movie that all of us can enjoy."

Will Payne be involved in a very likely third film?

"It's still a little early to talk about my involvement with another sequel," he told The Continuum. "I've had no conversations about it. But I've had a great time, and I've liked everyone involved in this project, so, of course, I'd be thrilled to do another Fantastic Four film."

Spider-Man 3 gave Marvel two movies in the top 10, placing ninth with $2.5 million and pushing its total to $330.0 million.
