WATCHMEN MOVIE SYNOPSIS

Warner Bros. has released a synopsis for its upcoming Watchmen movie.

Here's how the studio describes the film:

"Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the 'Doomsday Clock' -- which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union -- is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion -- a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers -- Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the Watchmen?"

The film, to be directed by 300's Zack Snyder, is targeted for 2009.

Here's how the network describes the mini-series:

"...an epic tale set 30 years in the future. A private shuttle takes a three-year journey to a newly discovered planet filled with exotic and dangerous creatures. But after an attack, the shuttle is forced to flee, stranding one of its pilots in the midst of this wild new land. After being rescued by a rival tribe, the pilot decides to help his new comrades create a better life for themselves -- starting with weapons to defend themselves. Our shuttle pilot becomes the leader of their new society and when humans return to rescue him 10 years later, he's hesitant to leave. Like Robinson Crusoe in space, this adventure pits the stranded pilot against his fellow humans when his adopted planet is ravaged of its natural resources by his native species."
