WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO -- DCU: NEW WORLDS PANEL

ROSEMONT, ILL. -- DC Comics publisher/president Paul Levitz confirmed that an animated movie based in the Batman Begins/The Dark Knight world is in production for release next year.

The movie will be six parts in anime style. "Some of the most noted anime directors are being brought in to work on it," Levitz.

It will be released before The Dark Knight and fit in between the two feature films.

Levitz said the full list of talent will be announced shortly.

Levitz made the announcement at DCU: New Worlds Order panel on Saturday at Wizard World Chicago.

Following are other highlights:

* Jim Calafiore said he is excited about drawing Gotham Underground and dealing with the Batman characters. The series is now nine issues, with nine connected covers. Calafiore said the original art is 50 inches by 30 inches.

* Tony Daniel is the new artist on Batman, joining Grant Morrison. "It feels like 'about time.' I've been waiting my whole life for this," Daniel said.

* Booster Gold will feature characters like Jonah Hex, an early Green Lantern and the previous Blue Beetle.

* Francis Manapul is the new artist of Legion of Super-Heroes. A new writer will be named soon.

* Wonder Girl will be "addressing a lot of the insanity" in her life, editor Nachie Castro said.

* Catwoman writer Will Pfeiffer said the book will be going through some "big changes."

* Pfeiffer said the ending of Amazons Attack! will be a surprise.

* Ethan Van Sciver said he is drawing 10 pages of Green Lantern #25 that will tease the final part of his and Geoff Johns' massive trilogy.

* DC announced three new kids books: Tiny Titans by Art Baltazar and Franco; Billy Batson and the Magics of Shazam! by Mike Kunkel; Super Friends, based on the Mattel toys line.

* Levitz introduced a seven-minute preview of the Justice League: New Frontier animated movie.

* Executive editor Dan DiDio said that Darwyn Cooke is working on a New Frontier comic book to coincide with the release of the film.

* DiDio said Andy Kubert is working on a special Batman project.

* Sholly Fisch is writing Super Friends, and the book will have various artists.

* On the film side, Levitz said development is on almost every key piece of the DCU and many pieces of Vertigo.

Levitz said the Justice League script is "wonderful" and he's hopeful for a director soon.

* Levitz said there have been discussions about Vertigo in animation, although the current project with Warner Home Video will feature super-heroes.

* DiDio said Brad Meltzer is in "novel land" for a while.

* DiDio said Aquman will be lying low for a while.

* DiDio said James Robinson will be providing a future project.
