WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO -- MARVEL CIVIL WAR AND REMEMBERANCE PANEL

ROSEMONT, ILL. -- Mark Millar announced on Saturday at Marvel Comics' Civil War and Rememberance panel at Wizard World Chicago that he and Bryan Hitch are the new creative team of Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four.

The team's run begins in Fantastic Four #556 in January. Millar said he has written 10 issues, and Hitch is into his fifth issue of art.

Millar said he wants to take the characters to the next level and evolve them as Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did every 10 issues during their run. He wants an unpredictability to the book.

"Stan Lee's brilliant advice was no idea is too bizarre for this," Millar said. "He (Hitch) grounds it with the style of is drawing because it's so real."

Millar said Hitch's style has loosened up a little. "He's gotten even better."

The story begins with the team going back in time to the opening of Disneyland in 1956.

Millar said he will be using Doctor Doom -- "I want to see Hitch draw him" -- but will try to avoid cliches of writing Fantastic Four, i.e. Galactus coming to Earth.

Marvel also unveiled images from another Millar project, 1985. He described the book as a sequel to Jim Shooter's Secret Wars.

Millar finished writing 1985 last year and the series is currently being drawn by Tommy Lee Edwards.
