AL GOUGH TALKS SMALLVILLE DVD

Al Gough, executive producer of Smallville, told The Continuum that the Season 6 DVD -- due in stores on Tuesday -- represents the best in the show and the DVD series.

"I think Season 6, in many respects, was our strongest season to date," Gough told The Continuum. "All the characters had a clarity of goal, and we were finally able to center the show on our core triangle of Clark/Lana/Lex. I know many fans may not have liked this story line, but we thought it was extremely successful. We were also able to introduce more of the Superman and DC mythology into the show -- Phantom Zone/Zod/Green Arrow/Justice League -- and we were pleased with the results, so look for more of that in Season 7!"

And what about this specific DVD set?

"Check out the two documentaries, one on the history of Green Arrow, the other on Super Fans of the show," Gough said. "I think they are the best special features we've had to date on any DVD."

Like previous DVDs, this one is being released just prior to the start of a new season. Smallville's seventh season starts Sept. 27 on The CW.

"The DVD market has been extremely important to bringing new fans to the show," Gough said. "At least once a week, someone tells me that they watch the show because their friends or family got them hooked on the DVDs and they've caught up to current season."

HEROES: "LIZARDS"

NBC has released a description of "Lizards," the Oct. 1 episode of Heroes.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"With one person dead, Matt (Greg Grunberg) enlists some unlikely help as the attacks continue on people with abilities. Claire's (Hayden Panettiere) efforts to hide her healing abilities at her new California high school are jeopardized by a fellow student with a secret of his own. Niki (Ali Larter) and Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey) leave Las Vegas in an attempt to start over. As part of his new job, Dr. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) must track down The Haitian (guest star Jimmy Jean-Louis).

"While crossing into Mexico, Maya (Dania Ramirez) and Alejandro's (Shalim Ortiz) abilities prove to be a threat to those around them. Meanwhile, disappointed by his hero Kensei (David Anders), Hiro (Masi Oka) resolves to rectify any damage his presence in feudal Japan has done to history. And another lost Hero falls in with a gang of Irish gangsters with clues to his past."

RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION

The Continuum has obtained 18 images from Resident Evil: Extinction, which opens in theaters on Friday.

The R-rated film is the third -- and decribed by Sony as the final -- installment in the series, which is based on the CAPCOM video-game. Resident Evil also has been featured in comics stories from WildStorm Productions.

Milla Jovovich reprises her role from the first two films as Alice. Returning from Resident Evil: Apolcalypse are Mike Epps and Oded Fehr.

Newcomers to the the cast include Ali Larter from NBC's Heroes, Spencer Locke and Ashanti.

Resident Evil: Extinction is written by Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the first film and wrote all three films in the trilogy. Russell Mulcahy directed Extinction.

Here's how the film is described:

"The experimental T-Virus, concocted by the Umbrella Corporation, has been unleashed on the world, transforming the population into a scourge of shambling zombies with a taste for flesh.

"With no safety in the cities, Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti), have gathered a group of survivors and taken to the road ... traversing the empty desert highways in an armored convoy. What they seek is more of their kind - the living ... the uninfected. What they find is the other constant presence in the desert: the Undead - and they'll need dozens of guns, thousands of bullets and a pair of flamethrowers to protect themselves.

"Hidden beneath an abandoned Nevada radio tower are the sleek offices and research facilities of the Umbrella Corporation. With access to Umbrella's constant real-time satellite surveillance, Dr. Isaacs (Iain Glen) can keep constant tabs on the convoy ... but he's searching for the one person who not only is the key to a cure, but everything Umbrella's experiments have been leading up to ... Alice.

"Once held captive by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice was subjected to biogenic experimentation that left her genetically altered, giving her superhuman strengths, senses and dexterity. Mutating by the minute, and under constant threat of betrayal by her own Umbrella-engineered DNA, Alice has been shadowing the convoy, standing by to protect them, hoping to somehow usher them to safety.

"The convoy decides to head north to Alaska -- their last, best hope for refuge from the Undead -- but first they will have to make a pit-stop in Las Vegas to refuel... and stay out of Umbrella's sightlines if they ever hope to reach it.

"Not only is Umbrella looking for Alice, but she is also looking for them... and she won't stop until they're shut down forever."
