Dania Ramirez, who played Callisto in X-Men: The Last Stand, is returning to the world of super-powers as a cast member for the second season of NBC's Heroes.

Ramirez's character, Maya Herrera, and her brother Alejandro (played by Shalim Ortiz) are featured in the season opener, "Four Months Later," which will air on Monday.

"You pick her up somewhere in Central America trying to make my way with my brother up to the U.S. to find, in my opinion, what I think is a cure for something that I have, which is this power," Ramirez said. "It's put me in this predicament which has me running from the law. I'm trying to get to the U.S. to get help, but we're also immigrants and we don't have a lot of money.

"I'm struggling with the darker side of having an ability that I cannot competely control and causes me to do certain things that cause death and other really bad things to people around me."

Ramirez said Maya has a special link with her brother.

"I need him and he needs me, not only for protection, but he's a really important part of what my power consists of," she said.

Ramirez said she welcomes the acting challenges of a serialized show like Heroes.

"As you know from all the other characters in the show, everybody's so layered, and that's also present with my character," she said.
