HEROES: "FIGHT OR FLIGHT"

NBC has released nine images -- including the first of guest-star Kristen Bell -- from "Fight or Flight," the Monday, Oct. 22 episode of Heroes.

Here's how NBC describes the episode:

"In Ireland, a lost Hero attempts to move beyond the past, but discovers that a mysterious woman -- Elle (Bell) -- is willing to kill to find him. Matt (Greg Grunberg) and an unexpected ally fly to Philadelphia to hunt down the 'boogyman,' following his terrible attack on Molly (guest star Adair Tishler), but the pair finds themselves outmatched. Monica (Dana Davis) tries to come to terms with her new abilities and her role as a local hero. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) meets his new partner and gets a disturbing assignment. H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) takes a step to further protect his family.

"Meanwhile, as Hiro (Masi Oka) continues to fix the past in feudal Japan, Ando (James Kyson Lee) attempts to piece together historically what's happened to his best friend."

IDW PUBLISHING'S ANGEL

IDW Publishing has announced it will release one-shot stories that tie in to the larger storyline of its 12-issue Angel: After The Fall, which continues events of the Angel television series.

The first of the one-shots will be in April. Angel: First Night will detail the events at the end of Season Five's final day as they affected some lesser-seen characters from the show.

After The Fall represents the official continuation of the The WB television series show, overseen by Angel co-creator Joss Whedon. The TV show ended with Angel facing off against endless demon hordes as he and his friends charged forward.

Whedon will co-plot the story with series scripter Brian Lynch, and art will be handled by Franco Urro, Lynch's collaborator on IDW's Spike: Shadow Puppets limited series, which also spun out of Season Five of the TV show.

"Angel and his friends took a stand because he thought it was the right thing to do," Lynch said. "They fought the good fight, even though they were probably going to lose, even though they were facing insurmountable odds. But that's the thing about insurmountable odds: surmounting them can be quite a bitch. The series begins to tackle the fallout of Angel's stand, and what it cost everyone near, around and close to him."

The monthly series kicks off in November with a 27-page story and a preview of a new Lynch zombie comic.

"This is the story we've wanted to tell since we first started publishing Angel comics three years ago," said Chris Ryall, IDW's publisher and editor-in-chief. "More to the point, it's a story fans have been dying to see, and neither they nor I ever wanted to tell this tale without Joss. So it's great to have his participation, as well as the great work by Brian and Franco, to proper deliver this epic saga."

ARCHIE COMIICS' RICHARD H. GOLDWATER DIES

Richard H. Goldwater, president/co-publisher of Archie Comics, passed away on Oct. 2 after a battle with cancer. He was 71.

Goldwater's father, John Goldwater, was the creator of Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge. In 1941, John Goldwater and his business partners, Louis Silberkleit and Maurice Coyne, founded MLJ, the company that later came to be known as Archie Comic Publications. Richard joined the company after college and, after working his way up through the company, took the company private together with his life-long friend, Louis' son, Michael Silberkleit, chairman/co-publisher.

"I am proud to know that my good friend Richard played a major role in bringing Americašs favorite teenage humor characters into millions of American home," Silberkleit said. "I will miss him profoundly, both as a life-long friend and business partner."

"I worked with Richard for almost 50 years," said Victor Gorelick, vice president/managing editor. "He passed on his enthusiasm and love for the Archie characters to me. He was my boss and my friend. I'm going to miss him and our almost daily talks. While he would come into my office to go over cover ideas, story topics and editorial direction, we also enjoyed engaging in lively discussions about cars, food, boats and the good old days."
