Marvel First Looks, January solicitations -- and much more!

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE -- MAY 1, 2009

20th Century Fox has set a May 1, 2009 release date for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, sources have confirmed for The Continuum.

In addition, according to Variety, Liev Schreiber is reportedly in final talks to take on the role of a younger version of nemesis William Stryker.

The film will also include Victor Creed and the Weapon X program, and Variety hinted that filming scheduled for New Orleans might indicate an appearance by Gambit.

Hugh Jackman reprises his role from the three X-Men films. The movie will be directed by Gavin Hood from a script by David Benioff.

Jackman and partner John Palermo are producing Wolverine through their Seed Productions. Ralph Winter and Lauren Shuler Donner, who produced the three X-films, are both returning for Wolverine.

Production is expected to begin this winter in Australia.

Marvel movies have enjoyed success on the first weekend in May, generally considered the opening weekend of the summer box-office period, including record-setting results from Spider-Man in 2002, X2 in 2003 and Spider-Man 3 this year.

Marvel is releasing Iron Man on May 2, 2008.

The CW has released a description of "Wrath," the Thursday, Nov. 8 episode of Smallville.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"Kryptonite and high voltage mix during a lightning storm, causing Lana (Kristin Kreuk) to absorb Clarkıs (Tom Welling) powers. Using her newfound super powers, she breaks into Lexıs (Michael Rosenbaum) safe and steals incriminating evidence which she then delivers to Lois (Erica Durance) and Grant (Michael Cassidy), demanding they run a story exposing Lexıs secrets. After Grant refuses to use stolen material, Lana decides to take care of Lex herself. Clark tries to stop Lana from killing Lex and a super battle ensues between the two."

ULTIMATES SAGA

Before launching Ultimates 3, Marvel Comics will release Ultimates Saga on Nov. 7, recapping the history of the team and providing a preview of the future.

The book is written by C.B. Cebulski and Mindy Owens and features four new interior pages of art by Travis Charest and a new cover by Mark Brooks.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Every spy has his secrets, and Nick Fury is no different. As America's top-ranking espionage expert, just imagine what skeletons Nick has lurking in his closet! What really happened behind the scenes of America's premiere super hero strike force? That's what Tony Stark wants to know!

As Stark assumes control of S.H.I.E.L.D., he quickly discovers that leading an international super-team is not all it's cracked up to be, even for a man of his power and genius. Just what does the future hold for the billionaire and for the Ultimates? As he begins studying Nick Fury's personal files on past Ultimates activities, Tony finds that maybe their actions were not always as altruistic as he suspected. And the deeper he delves into the mysteries he unlocks in Fury's journals, the more he begins to question just want he's gotten himself into by assuming control of the The Ultimates.

"While recapping Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's five-year run on The Ultimates Volume 1 and 2, the Ultimates Saga also sets up the action in Ultimates 3, by providing a unique new perspective on the events the team has fought and lived through. New revelations and insights are brought to light as the team must now come to terms with what truly lies ahead for them all."
