Marvel First Looks -- and more!

Warner Bros. has released synopses for The Dark Knight and Whiteout movies, noting that Whiteout will be a third quarter release.

Warner has also announced a new trailer for The Dark Knight that will be released online Monday.

Here's how the studio describes The Dark Knight, which arrives in theaters on July 18:

"Christian Bale once again embodies the man behind the mask in The Dark Knight. The film reunites Bale with director Christopher Nolan and takes Batman across the world in his quest to fight a growing criminal threat. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman has been making headway against local crime...until a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker (Heath Ledger) unleashes a fresh reign of chaos across Gotham City. To stop this devious new menace -- Batman's most personal and vicious enemy yet -- he will have to use every high-tech weapon in his arsenal and confront everything he believes."

Here's how the studio describes Whiteout:

"After two years stationed at Antarctica's South Pole research base, lone U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale) is as anxious as anyone to be going home. She's turned in her resignation and is counting the hours and minutes to the last plane out. But three days before departure, a body turns up on the ice and Carrie is immediately thrust into Antarctica's first murder investigation. As the death toll mounts, the mystery deepens with shifting loyalties, deadly whiteouts, and a relentless killer who will stop at nothing to protect a secret buried for over sixty years. Now with everyone around her packing up and getting out, Carrie must solve the crime before Antarctica is plunged into six months of darkness and she is stranded with the killer on a land where nothing comes in and no one gets out."

Oni Press has released a 22-page preview of Jumper: Jumpscars, a 104-page graphic novel scheduled for Feb. 13. The book is tied to the theatrical release of Jumper, the movie starring Hayden Christiansen, Rachel Bilson, and Samuel L. Jackson and directed by Doug Liman.

Jumper tells the story of David Rice, a young man who discovers he has the ability to teleport himself distances both near and far with nothing more than a thought. David's powers aren't just a blessing though -- they also happen to put him in the sights of the Paladins, an ancient order dedicated to eliminating the genetic aberrations they deem too dangerous to exist in our world. Jumpscars looks back over twenty years as a new Paladin must deal with the perils of the job while honing her skills under one of the Paladins' top operatives -- the mysterious Roland (portrayed in the film by Jackson).

"When we first started discussing the possibility of Jumper comics with the fine folks at New Regency and Fox, one of the things that struck us most was the epic nature of the project and the vast scope the filmmakers had planned for the movie," said Oni Press publisher Joseph Nozemack. "The world that was being built around these characters was so well-realized and the mythology so interesting that other stories about this conflict would be plentiful and add to what the filmmakers were building."

The graphic novel is written by Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir, with art by Brian Hurtt.

"There's the whole world that they've created, and there are corners of it that we were excited to flesh out," DeFilippis said. "We see Paladins in the film, but we don't see how hard their job is."

"We wanted to create a really personal story, but one that fits perfectly into this larger world," added Weir. "We wanted to show you this war from the ground level. What is it like to be swept up in this conflict? How does a Paladin get started and what is it like to have to do they things they have to do?"
