COMING SUNDAY

March solicitations -- and much more!

JON STEWART ON THE SIMPSONS

Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, is making a guest appearance on the Sunday, Jan. 6 episode of Fox's The Simpsons.

"It's truly a great honor and I'm very excited about it," said Stewart, who plays himself in the "E Pluribus Wiggum" episode.

Dan Rather also plays himself in the episode.

Here's how Fox describes the episode:

"After Springfield becomes the first city in the nation to hold a presidential primary election, excitement builds as reporters from around the country, including Jon Stewart and Dan Rather, descend upon Springfield to cover the debates. When the candidates turn out to be less than compelling, Kent Brockman announces an unexpected turn of events: Springfield voters rejected all of the candidates and embraced a write-in: notorious bed-wetter Ralph Wiggum.

"With Ralph as the new presidential front-runner, Republican and Democratic party leaders fight to win him over as their candidate. Find out if Ralph can make the leap from Sesame Street to Pennsylvania Avenue."

HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY NOVELIZATION

Robert Greenberger has written the official novelization of Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which is scheduled for a May 25 release.

Here's how Dark Horse describes the 240-page book:

"After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders.

"He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call Hellboy. Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense - pyrotechnic girlfriend Liz Sherman, aquatic empathy Abe Sapien, and protoplasmic mystic Johann - the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him."

BRIEFLY

* Zenescope Entertainment on Friday announced it has acquired the rights to the novel The Straw Man by English writer Michael Marshall. Zenescope will be adapting it as both a comic-book series and graphic novel.

The story follows Ward Hopkins, a seemingly average man with a past so secret that not even he knows about it. After a string of tragedies and murders, Hopkins begins to uncover a horrifying truth -- each event is related and he has a direct link to those responsible. As he investigates his own past, Hopkins realizes that he must eventually come face to face with a terrifying network of killers. No one knows who they are or why they kill -- but they must be stopped and only one man may have the ability to do so.

Brett Weldele is providing art for the series, which is scheduled to launch in June.

* "Ebb and Flow" is the title of the Friday, Jan. 11 episode of Flash Gordon on Sci Fi Channel.
